Hi, looking for some advice our 6yo Springer spaniel is being spayed and having a lump removed on Monday morning. The op has had to be cancelled once already as she came into season early!
But now she appears to be having a phantom pregnancy, can any wise mumsnetter tell me if the op can go ahead!? Thanks!

Usually need to settle down the hormones with Galastop first, takes about a week. If spayed during a false pregnancy it can take time to settle. I'd try to see the vet first thing Monday morning before she is admitted.

Thanks bakingtins, she seems to be determined not to be operated on! Would they remove a lump from her back while she was having a phantom? Really want her to have it removed as it sore and starting to get bigger.
Everytime we book her in she throws a spanner in the works! Thanks.

I wouldn't spay during a phantom - if the hormones are very troublesome eg she is dripping milk, then Galastop is a solution, otherwise it just needs waiting out.

Unless you fear the lump is dangerous, I wouldn't choose 2 GAs but would wait to get both procedures done under the same one. It is worth remembering that phantoms are likely to increase in severity as the dog ages, so spaying remains important though.

We had to delay BerthaDog's spay due to a phantom pregnancy. It went ahead three weeks later so probably worth waiting a short while to avoid the extra stress on her of going in twice.

Thanks everyone, going to take her first thing and see what the vet says. Looks like it won't be tomorrow! I didn't know that the phantoms increase with age. She does suffer with her seasons, so think spaying is the best idea for her. Thanks again x

Just a little update, the vet decided it was best to wait until the phantom has gone. So back home and she has a week to come out of her phantom. If not the medication will be started.
Thanks for your help!

Did the vet give you tips on stopping the phantom? We had to withhold all cuddles and exercise her hard. Worked for us.
