Fireworks and dog

We've had our rescue for about 5 or so months now, she was very jumpy when we first got her and took her for walks but she settled down and really loved it. She goes for two walks a day but since the fireworks have started, she has been terrified of leaving the house unless it is in the car but then she won't walk then either.

We've been taking her out in daylight hours, and its not helped, she reacts the same way. DH took her this morning at half 7, got to the park and someone let a firework off (grrrr who's actually awake at that time on a saturday morning) and that was it, she bolted home. I've just tried at 3pm to take her out and we didn't even make it to the end of the drive. To make it even more stressful, she prefers to go to the toilet on a walk and won't go in the garden unless she absolutely has to. We've had a couple of good months where she hasn't weed in the house and I really don't want her to regress.

Has anyone got any ideas? Please! x

How infuriating, fireworks at 7.30 am, no wonder dog is scared to go outside. Can you ask the rescue for advice? The one i got my dog from stressed that I should call them if there were any behaviour problems.
Fireworks seems to have gone on for longer than usual this year, was getting Angry as dog very hyper and went berserk to even the slightest hiss of a distant sparkler but am amazed to see today that he seems to have got used to them. He's ignoring some quite loud bangs.
Hope things get better for your dog.

Hi tea Sod's law really applies with nervous dogs it is maddening when the worst thing that can happen does at exactly the right time anyway sounds like you are doing a grand job don't worry about the walking she can stay in for a couple of days rather than go out when she is so nervous she will calm down when all the banging stops they are resilient and do get over these frights. She may never be ok with fireworks what dog is and may need to be kept in during this time of year but you can ease the symptoms.

Thank you for the advice! No better today but at least she went in the garden so going to the toilet wasn't a problem. Really am fed up of fireworks, they've gone off every night for the last 2 weeks and I think it's a bit bloody much!! What's wrong with just the weekends and bonfire night.

We're going to keep trying but not pushing her and hopefully once they stop, she'll get her confidence back or forget why she was scared. I think eventually she'll get fed up of not going out, she does love a good run and play. And fireworks are inevitably going to happen every year, she'll just have to deal with it I think.

Thanks again :)
