New dog with house rabbits

We have 2 house rabbits (and 2 giant rabbits outside), and for various reasons we are considering taking on a lovely 9 yr old cocker spaniel whose owner has had to go into a care home. She is gentle and affectionate and lovely with children (i have 2), and she ignores the current foster owner's rabbits when they free range in the garden.
I'm obviously rather anxious she get on with the rabbits, although I will never leave her alone with them of course. The rabbits free range the big kitchen/diner downstairs at the moment and I could conceivably divide it so they only get the end half. If that doesn't work, I could move the rabbits upstairs but that will be a last resort.
Does anyone have any experience of this or advice on how to manage an introduction, both to our house and to our small furries?

Sorry no, but the Rabbit Welfare Association and Fund has an excellent website. I can't see anything regarding this, but have only looked briefly. They have a forum, or a post on the Facebook page might get you some advice?

Thankyou, I'll take a look.

Hello, I have had 2 dogs and 2 caged guinea pigs for the last 4 years and last week we got 2 male lop eared house rabbits (who had previously lived free roaming in a house with dogs). When the dogs and rabbits were introduced to each other I kept the rabbits in a cage and allowed the dogs to have a sniff around until they got bored. At the moment I only allow the rabbits freedom in 2 rooms and I have a small latch type thing high up on the door so my dc's don't open the door unless the dogs are locked in the kitchen. I will never trust my terrier with the rabbits because although she doesn't seem to pay them any attention, it is her breeds instinct to attack them so I'll never trust her with them. If the cocker spaniel ignores the foster carers rabbits then she will probably have no interest in your rabbits either. Maybe ask to borrow the cocker spaniel for a few hours to see how they all get along?? Fingers crossed it all works out, x

Thanks, that's really interesting. She's over an hour away so can't really borrow her, but I am going to ask if we can have a week's trial, because of the rabbits and I also want to make sure she doesn't affect my son's asthma. He doesn't appear to have any reaction to dogs, but just in case.
