I have a pretty large lawned front garden, around corner location, no through road, very quiet, so only residents could pass by here.
The problem is neighbour's dog pooed on my lawn frequently, but owners didn't pick up! I don't know exactly which dog did this.
I picked up two fresh piles this morning, loads before.
What can I do ? I am expecting owners pick up at least, is it too much to ask?

Big fence, stop the dirty buggers getting on your lawn in the first place! Or contact your local council and see if there is a dog control order in place, if there is ask for sign to be put up and maybe a warden patrol, if they still have any staff to do it.

AlfalfaMa · 04/11/2013 22:54

Not too much to ask, no.

Can you put a polite little sign up?

kilmuir · 04/11/2013 22:55

A little sign, polite but to the point

ErrolTheDragon · 04/11/2013 22:56

Of course they should pick up or better still, keep the dog off their neighbours' lawns till after it has done its business.

I don't really know what you can do other than catching them in the act and offering the owner a bag by way of hint (or giving them a bollocking, which is deserved but you might not want to do that).

CURIOUSMIND · 04/11/2013 23:21

Please help me with the polite little sign. I don't want to offend anybody at all.

Private Property Can You Please Keep Your Dogs Off The Grass. If They Do Deficate Can You Please Clean Up After Them. Thank You.

If that dosen't work pick it up, knock on their door and hand it to them to put in their own bin and say I think this belongs to you. They might get the message then.

sweetkitty · 05/11/2013 16:56

My neighbours dog does this, I get a shovel and flick it back into their garden, only returning their property. Now I have a dog I would be mortified if she pooed in anyone's garden, unless they are letting it out to run wild they must know the dog is doing it.

There is a great sign on our bridleway
"there is no such thing as the poo fairy" with a picture of a fairy carrying a poo bag - humouress but too the point

pigsDOfly · 05/11/2013 18:59

Not sure why you'd be worried about offending these people Curiousmind. The dog owners clearly don't extend the same courtesy to you, but then perhaps you're a nicer person than they are.

I think I'd put up a sign stating that people are allowing their dogs to defecate on your lawn and you'd be obliged if they'd control their dogs or clean up after them.

It disgusting for someone to allow their dog to poo anywhere without cleaning it up. But allowing it in someone garden is just horrible, especially a neighbour.

CURIOUSMIND · 05/11/2013 22:06

Thank you so much everyone, for clearly supporting me.
Why I worried? Because I don't know who they really are under smiling face. I don't know whose dog did this, so can't throw them back. All my neighbours smile and chat a bit in a friendly way Confused.

You can buy stuff in DIY stores that puts dogs and cats off your lawn. No idea if it works but worth a try?

Beccadugs · 05/11/2013 22:31

What about one of those motion activated sprinklers... You'd soon know who it is!

Otgerwise pets at home sell this green gunky stuff that you can spread to discourage dogs and cats from going in certain plsces. You could try that!

CURIOUSMIND · 05/11/2013 22:45

Thank you Tulip and Beccadugs, great idea! I never knew this stuff before.
