Can i have some advice on dog training classes?

me and dh have had a row about it Angry and it's most probably more to do with that tbh

I attended a puppy training course and some of the after training sessions, drop in only but it was at such an awkward time that in the end I stopped going (or being able to go) Our KC registered course is also at a peculiar time and I can't fit it in.

Anyway, the younger dog was part of a duo and as we live rural I have started to think it's really important she gets more socialisation at classes as I think it will benefit her

I have found a training school localish that does training classes, emailed explained my dog, what training we had done etc and he emailed back that he had a class available and they would do a combination of obedience, nosework and low impact agility to build confidence and the bond with our dogs so i thought great, I would register and go along.

DH has said it's too advanced and they will teaching her to sniff out and I need to work on her recall more at home first Confused Does it really sound too advanced? surely someone who runs a training school wouldn't recommend a training class based on the dogs age, rather than her breed, being a rescue and her capabilities? i thought they just catered for all and it was like a beginers type class seeing as we had already done a puppy one (she is 15 months old)

Confused

any advice will be fine, he has made me paranoid Hmm

sorry I missed out that she was part of a duo, but is now a single dog as my other dog had to be pts, so now she is a single dog and I can walk for miles here and not see a soul and I don't think that's good for her long term! She's a lovely dog though

I think you need to just go along and see what they do and then make a decision about whether to continue .personally I've always found that the main thing is to find a trainer that you get on with and who shares your ethos on how to train a dog .

There isn't a set order you do things in?...

I mean, nosework is basically games to play to tire your dog out mentally (unless you were needing it for working a dog somehow), why would it matter if your recall still needs work? I mean I assume yo play other things with her? lol

I can't see why it wouldn't be ok and if it's not then keep looking for something else, but I'd definitely try it first.

Best thing to do is to go along once without the dog to see what they do & whether it will suit you. Any good dog trainer will encourage this.

I think he has been watching too much fireman sam and thinks nosework means they/I will be training her up to be a sniffer dog!

I never thought about going alone to watch what they do Blush
