I am so upset. I lost my dad a few months back and it would have been mum and dads wedding anniversary today. I took the day off work and went to spend the day with mum who lives 30 miles away. when I arrived my sister said we have to take Bertie to the vets immediately as he's just passed a sandwich plate size amount of blood! OMG I am so scared that he's gonna die, I don't think mum could take it as Bertie's been such a loyal loving companion during the last year. And today of all days. We have just left the vets, he says he's eaten something and given him 3 injections. We go back at 6pm to see what the score is. Please tell me he will be alright. I really hope he is for his sake and my poor mum.(sad).

You poor things, what a horrible day. I hope Bertie will be OK. My retriever started vomiting blood at 2am one morning (having been not quite right all day). Rushed her to the vet ... long story short, she spent two days on a drip and various meds and was perfectly fine when we collected her. So I hope that your Mum's dog will be OK. x

Hoping for good news

Just a quick update: he's staying overnight at the vets and hopefully with the drip etc and meds he will improve, just like yours Mitchell
Mum. Fingers crossed. Will update when we know tomorrow. Thanks for your support, it's been a miserable day and I needed to talk to fellow dog lovers/owners that know what it feels like.

Bless him. It was probably horrid leaving him there, but it's the best place for him. Keep us posted. x

I hope Bertie makes a speedy recovery. What a stressful day it must have been for you.Brew and Thanks for you.

Poor you - how awful. It might not necessarily be anything dreadful; both my dogs have passed bloody diarrhoea before, sending everyone into panic and meltdown, but it's just been something they've eaten or stress. The vet reassured us all four times that these things can look a lot worse than they are. Fingers crossed it's just a simple irritated tum.

Wishing Bertie a speedy recovery.

Any news on Bertie?

milkybarsrus · 17/10/2013 16:09

Hi all, good news so far re Bertie, he is now home with mum, being fussed over as he re-cooperates from his ordeal. It appears that it was something he ate, but what, we just don't know as he only ever goes off lead in the garden. Vet seemed a bit underwhelmed by it , so that's a good sign I think. Thanks for all your support, it was a day I had been dreading , made worse by Bertie being ill! Pets and kids = stress and grey hair!! But we wouldn't be without them.

So glad he is on the mend Smile

horcruxmanzini · 17/10/2013 17:01

Glad it was nothing serious too! It's very very scary when it happens. Particularly since bloody runny poo tends to squirt out at horror film velocity! My vet says it can be triggered by stress as well, so maybe he was just picking up on the high emotion running in the house?

I know when I'm having a massive crisis, my dogs like nothing better than to give me a reason to add 'panic dash to the vets' to my to do list, just to take my mind off things...

So glad that your experienced mirrored my own and that he's now OK. Phew!
