...to stop piddling on the carpet. It's getting on my nerves now. He spends ages outside (with someone), then sneaks in to do a crafty piss. Ditto poos.

We have some success, then it's back to wanton piddling.

We treat and praise for outdoor successes, we diligently clean indoor epic fails. He is supposed to be an intelligent breed and is nearly 13 weeks old.

He's very young and it takes some puppies longer than others.

The trick is consistency. Keep praising for getting it right, say nothing when he has accidents but clean them up very very well (sad to say you may find this is not possible with carpets and you may need to consider other options, but I stand to be corrected), supervise him at all time and put him out at any sigh of wanting to go, take him out every half hour and put him in a safe place (crate) when you can't supervise/are out. If he goes when your back is turned you may need to resort to putting him on a lead and keeping hold of him all day long to supervise 100% what happens.

Intelligence has little to do with toilet training, he could be a sensitive soul or a bit stressed or marking.

Ah, he is quite sensitive, being a toy poodle and all. He's a darling in every other respect (thus far) and brightens every moment. Good to know he will get there in the end.
