Why do people have uncastrated male dogs that hump everything in sight?

That's it really my SIL has a chihuahua who spent the whole time he visited us trying to lick my new pups bits and trying to hump her, usually he's trying to hump my arm or slippers.

Met a dog yesterday who was trying to hump the pup usually it's DD3.

If you are not going to breed from the dog why keep it intact? SIL says it's a shame but I think it's more of a shame for the poor sexually frustrated dog. And I think it's unacceptable for a dog to be trying to hump children, why is it ok for small dogs to do this but it would be less acceptable in say a GSD?

Sorry just my opinion I know there's intact dogs out there who don't hump everything I had one as a child.

I know quite a few neutered males that still like doing the conga with anything that stands still long enough. Some dogs are just a bit....obsessive

Our last dog was intact till he was about 3 - TBH for no better reason than that DH went Confused at the idea of neutering him. But when we had DD he finally realised that its not on for even a small dog (dachshund) to hump people. The idea of him doing that to DD or one of her friends was a total no-no.

The current dog isn't a humper, his character is perfect as it is so we've not had him done.

My dog tried to hump the vicar when he came around to discuss our wedding Blush he'd been done at the rescue centre before we got him

Our current dog occasionally tries to hump things. SHES been done.

It's inbuilt

Oh and the current female uh per is a GSDx
We just tell her to stop and she does

Lilcamper · 01/10/2013 09:14

Dogs don't just hump for sexual relief and if it is a habit now, neutering might not help anyway www.psychologytoday.com/blog/animal-emotions/201209/why-dogs-hump

My jack russell bitch is a humper! She's spade! Neuturing her calmed it a bit but she still does it!

sweetkitty · 01/10/2013 09:35

Oh no don't tell me I could have a humper as well Shock

I remember going to a friends parents posh house once and their Lhasa Apso taking a sine to my boots and following me about humping my boots then leaving a erm deposit on them BlushConfused

Sorry but I still think its unacceptable to have a dog trying to hump children.

I have two dogs, one is castrated, the other isn't - guess which one does all the humping Grin

Sorry but I still think its unacceptable to have a dog trying to hump children.

Yes, it is. Your SIL needs to control her dog around kids and other dogs (obviously be very careful with yours until she's been spayed!).

Errol - my SILs dog is a chihuahua, mine is a ridgeback I don't even know if it would be possible lol although judging by last time he would give it his best shot Grin

I have a pup, only 3 months old and he's already humping.
Balls not even dropped!!

ErrolTheDragon · 01/10/2013 15:34

Kitty - I don't know about that combo but there was something in our paper a few years back about some people who had a rottie bitch and then got a boy dachshund - and made the mistake of assuming that nothing could happen between them! So I really wouldn't trust this little chap.

sweetkitty · 01/10/2013 15:58

Oh don't worry he won't get the chance to make some ridgehua'sGrinGrinGrinGrin
