Fleas :(

My dog has fleas. Quite badly-She's had them for about six weeks now.

With my previous dogs, and my partner's previous dogs, front line has always worked so I've used that-not this time. They seemed to subside, we couldn't see any on her for a bit and I didn't see any in the house, so I thought it had worked then it seemed that over night they came back, I was checking her for scratching and looking through her fur periodically.

I took her to the vet who said to keep on with the front line, it can take a while to work.

We've allso been blitzing the house with indorex spray. Still fleas-in the past couple of weeks when I had had enough, I rang the vet again who said to get her a seresto collar-but they're prescription only, I don't know if this is a new thing.

I am guessing I can take her back to the vets again and get a prescription but, is there anything else I can do, anything that's worked for anybody else? I feel sorry for her, they're obviously bothering her now, she's never had them before-horrible things they are.
I've not been bitten but my partner has. I don't know where she got them from :(

I am surprised the vet needs to see you again to prescribe a Seresto collar. We will prescribe one if we have seen the pet in last year and if we have seen them in the last year we do a free check up to prescribe flea products.
Frontline kills fleas within 24 and 48 hours of the flea landing on the pet hence the first advice of sticking with it. Whereas Seresto kills within 2 hours.
If you came to me I would advise a product switch to either Advocate or Seresto and on the same day hovering everywhere and reapplying Indorex or using Acclaim. Hovering before spraying is very important hovering afterwards reduces effectiveness.

Thanks Lone.
He said to get a Seresto collar, when I spoke to him on the 'phone as if I could just order one online, so I said I would-perhaps he didn't know they needed a prescription, or forgot?

I am going to telephone him tomorrow. We have been hoovering but our house is non-carpeted anyway, aside from one rug in the front room . The house is cluttered because we're in the midst of refurbishing (and OH's hoarding habit) but nothing soft furnishing-esque lying around, mostly tools and junk and woodwork bits-not the ideal environment for fleas. Weve been combing and dipping as well-although it's not very easy with a furry dog who hates being combed!

lonecat would know better than me as clearly my dogs are far too superior to ever get fleas but "a friend" was once told about Capstar (I think) tablets from the vet. They are super quick but not for everyday use IIRC.
