Where does your dog sleep?

We have a cavalier and she snores very loudly! She usually sleeps in the bedroom, but as well as snoring, has a habit of getting up to swap beds several times a night, with scratching the covers and turning lots of times. It's like sharing a room with a restless baby.

Not sure whether it would be cruel to put her bed somewhere else. She's 4 and a rescue dog, we've had her 3 years.

He sleeps in the kitchen in his crate , he loves it and often takes himself in there through the day. We only shut it at bedtime.
He isn't allowed upstairs at all and doesn't try to get up there.

MissHC · 13/09/2013 14:38

All dogs I've ever had have spent the night in the utility room. They're never really allowed upstairs either.

When you first get them as a puppy they do whine for a night or 2 but get used to it quickly. Current dog is also allergic to house mite so he couldn't sleep in the bed even if we would want him to. He gets a rash all over.

At the bottom of the stairs - on his bed, which we move from the kitchen into the entrance way (and therefore bottom of the stairs) only reason he doesn't sleep in kitchen is its open plan kitchen/dining room/play area - and I don't trust with the kids toys . He is very happy with this arrangement .
He snores like a train, so no way he's sleeping with me.

GemmaTeller · 13/09/2013 18:28

We used to have a GSD who slept in the kitchen but knew if DH was away she could sleep on the bed with me, about 10.30pm she would go and stand at the bottom of the stairs and look at me then look up as if to say 'come on, I know he's not here and I'm allowed up there'.

One freezing cold night last winter we woke up and found both boxers and both cats on our bed with us, they must have all thought it was best to sleep together for warmth Smile

SauvignonBlanche · 13/09/2013 18:32

Our rescue Lab sleeps downstairs, on his own.

digerd · 13/09/2013 18:42

At night time she sleeps in her furry bed. During the day it is under the dining room chairs or the mat. Have a few vet beds where she lies sometimes. ATM she is flat out on the carpet next to my chair.

Caffeineaddictedmumof4 · 13/09/2013 20:35

Older cav sleeps in our room in his own bed, he snores and has a good shuffle every few hours which drives dh mad but I'd be more likely to make him sleep somewhere else than the dog Grin Younger one sleeps on the bottom of our (teenage) daughter's bed.

Jolleigh · 13/09/2013 21:02

Our cocker has a bed in each room as he's a rescue who became very attached to us so wimpers if he can't be in the same room as at least 1 of us. He sleeps in our bedroom at night and snores horrendously, but then again, so does DP and he'd be upset if I made him sleep downstairs on a dog bed Wink

littlewhitebag · 13/09/2013 21:56

Our lab sleeps in the kitchen in her crate. She loves her cosy crate and spends half the day snoozing in there. She has to be persuaded with treats to join us in the evening.

JRT1 on the bedroom floor on some old clothes
JRT2 in the bed Blush

baskingseals · 13/09/2013 22:04

Large Labrador sleeps on my bed, or on the floor of my bedroom, underneath the window.
He does have a dog bed in the kitchen, which he mainly uses to drag the blankets out of when he's pleased to see somebody. So that was a good buy then.

topbannana · 14/09/2013 08:27

I'm amazed the amount of people who allow their dogs upstairs and on beds/ sofas Confused
That said I have working cockers who actually do work so are normally adorned with a liberal sprinkling of mud, twigs and other organic matter.
Poor boys sleep in their cages in the sitting room at night or when we are out or in front of the fire when we are about

Topbanana I should imagine your dogs are just as happy if not more so than pampered pooches in beds

shockers · 14/09/2013 09:03

She used to sleep in a crate in the dining/kitchen, but now she's older, she sleeps on her bed in front of the fireplace in there. She doesn't move all night.

LesserSpottedNeckSnake · 14/09/2013 11:02

I genuinely think my cocker/springer cross would hate to sleep upstairs with us. He'd feel the need to patrol and guard us. He's quite happy to get into his bed and get some peace tbh. The pup, however, would very much like to sleep on DH's pillow.

Soditall · 14/09/2013 11:08

both little dogs sleep on our bed(littlest jack russel x chihuahua)usually trys to sleep on top of me or DH,biggest dog(very large greyhound)sleeps in our bedroom.

Floralnomad · 14/09/2013 12:22

Our dog is allowed on sofas etc but is not allowed upstairs for a wide variety of reasons including the fact that he has no concept of respecting anyone else's personal space .

MrRected · 14/09/2013 12:32

On their beds in the garage. They have 2 duvets each.

Used to sleep on ds1s bed but were keeping him up, so we moved them.

festered · 15/09/2013 06:42

Kya just wants to be where we sleep, although because of our odd sleep/work patterns I often sleep downstairs in order to not disturb his sleep. She usually sleeps onthe floor next to me if I do that but then potters upstairs in the night to see himself, as well.
We sleep on a sort of bunk bed-well a high bed with a wardrobe underneath but she used to sleep on the bed when she could get on it!

vjg13 · 16/09/2013 11:29

Overnight, big dog beds in the dining room, during the day either in the sitting room or dining room. No dogs upstairs or on beds/ sofas here either much to the younger dog's disgust! Two lurchers.
