Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound ).

Come The Day
Come the day I take that final bend,
Can I count on you to be my friend?
To see I?m treated just and fair,
It means so much to know you care.

For, what the future holds in store,
Now that I can race no more,
Should be addressed for every hound,
Who parts the punter from his pound.

Tell them I don?t ask for much,
A kindly word, a gentle touch,
Somewhere warm to lay my head,
A meal each day to keep me fed,
Not just life- but quality,
This is how it ought to be.

Do not see me swept away,
I long to live another day,
With peace of mind, tranquillity,
And those who care surrounding me,
So tell them all- you have that choice,
I beg of you to be my voice.

I think it's totally workable but you have to think if its right for you. I like that I don't have to worry if my two get out as I open my front door to my customers at least 8-10 times a day. I also don't have to worry when I let them in the garden. But we rarely see people when we're out walking so that's not a problem really to us. I also walk a lot with my 3 year old and sometimes with ds1 and dss so a dog that was going mad trying to get to a little fluffy would be a deal breaker for me I'm afraid. If you are happy with her and they are offering you a two week trial then you would be more aware of what she's like with you and still not feel you are in any way tied in. Having said that I wouldn't be happy having a trial with a dog I wasn't committed to as I feel its unfair on the dog.

IsisOhIsis · 24/10/2013 08:16

That's how I feel, re the trial, cinnamon. Or fair one or DD.

Pointy folk, which is the website where I can purchase waterproof/fleece covers for a duvet? Asda are selling basic single duvets for £6 and seems to good to not take advantage of. I'd love a Tuffies but can't stretch to that expense at the moment. Those of you using duvets, do you put them straight on the floor or inside a "proper" dog bed?

cinnamongreyhound · 24/10/2013 16:00

This is the thread on LL Peanutpatty but just message the lady who started the thread as she didn't reply to my post on the thread. You can see photos on the thread though and chose what you want. Mine were £13 inc postage :)

Scuttlebutter · 24/10/2013 16:01

We have a selection of duvets liberally scattered around the house, car etc. We just get basic cheap ones from Ikea (think they do a basic single duvet for about £3!) and the duvet covers. I fold them in half and put them on the floor. The dogs can then scrunch them up,build a nest, drag them around or lie on them as required. Chuck duvet covers and duvet regularly into the washing machine - in the winter, I aim for weekly for the covers on a 60 wash. Occasionally I blast them at 90.

cinnamongreyhound · 24/10/2013 16:02

Sorry missed your last sentence! Mine are folded and then straight on floor, both always lay with their heads off so I figure they'd be hanging mid air if it was in a dog bed Grin

Scuttlebutter · 24/10/2013 16:03

Agree with Magrat - take your time over choosing. It's heartbreaking for everyone concerned when an adoption breaks down - better to take your time at this stage and get the right dog for your family.

moosemama · 24/10/2013 16:15

I know people on LL recommend getting a double or king and folding them into a single cover, as it makes them squidgy, but they still keep a more cushiony shape, iyswim.

I'm thinking of giving it a go, as despite having three beds to choose from, my two always seem to want to be in the same one and Lurcherboy has now decided that Pip is too big to share his bed - cue lots of grumbling and grumping. Hmm

cinnamongreyhound · 24/10/2013 17:28

I'm not convinced a double would fit in the single one Hmm

moosemama · 24/10/2013 17:32

I have squished a double into a single before when we've run out of bedding (child with enuresis). I don't see how a king-size would fit though.

Having looked at the ones you got cinnamon, I think I might order either a couple of mediums or a large one of those instead.

Did you go for cordura or fleece? Bit worried cordura might be rustly/noisy and I'm easily irritated! Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 24/10/2013 17:42

meant to be Confused

cinnamongreyhound · 24/10/2013 17:43

Mine is a fleecy bones and paws but I did like the super fluffy clouds and moons but I left ds's choose :)

moosemama · 24/10/2013 17:57

I'm tempted by the super fluffy clouds, but it doesn't exactly go with our decor.

Tempted to get one of those for Pip's crate in the kitchen and something less in your face for the living room.

PeanutPatty · 24/10/2013 20:02

So you'd recommend a double folded in half and a single cover? Apologies for requiring the clarification I've turned into a ditz lately. Thanks for the replies. Very helpful. Hope my mutt is grateful.

PeanutPatty · 24/10/2013 20:05

Bloody hell, how am I supposed to choose! I know practically the Cordura makes sense but I like the fleece for comfort. What to dooooo?

cinnamongreyhound · 24/10/2013 21:20

The smaller one is for a single duvet folded in quarters, moosemama was suggesting folding a double to the same size to make it more comfy. The larger one fits a double folded into quaters so the size of half a single.

cinnamongreyhound · 24/10/2013 21:22

The fleece is nice and they dry quickly so can be washed easily.

TooOldForGlitter · 24/10/2013 21:53

Hi everyone.

Pucking braibs again if i may; Bob is becoming incredibly attached to me and i'm wondering is it normal? His attachment is puppy-like in that I cant go upstairs without him whining even if DP and kids are downstairs. I can't go outside for a smoke some fresh air without him following. If i get up from lounge to go to kitchen he bounds up and follows. Everytime he does this there is always someone else in the room but he's blind to them. Is this normal settling behaviour or should I be trying to detach him from me? Help!

TooOldForGlitter · 24/10/2013 21:54

I think I meant picking brains! [Blush]

TooOldForGlitter · 24/10/2013 21:54

Oh ffs I can't even do emoticons now

cinnamongreyhound · 24/10/2013 22:01

Peanut was like that to start with TooOldForGlitter and Lola is still to some extent. They often form a stronger bond with one member of the family. Peanut is definitely my dog even though he was dh's choice, he's learned in the 4 months we've had him that I will come back and so he's doesn't follow me like he used to. It did drive me mad especially as at the time I felt forced into having him and didn't want him around me but we've both settled with each other :)

TooOldForGlitter · 24/10/2013 22:06

Just reading the posts re: Isis adopting her new grey and wanted to chip my novice opinion in!

We've had ours nearly two weeks now and I no longer muzzle him on walks, unless we are going into countryside and he is likely to meet lots of off-lead dogs. I don't know him well enough to know how he will be if a dog bounds at him off-lead.

Similar to what a PP mentioned, I got Bob a v. cheap hi-vis jacket and have marker penned on it 'Recently Rescued - Give Me Space!'. I find it works really well as those who want to say hello/bring a dog to meet him, have asked me first rather than just assume he will be OK with it.

TooOldForGlitter · 24/10/2013 22:09

That's reassuring Cinnamon, will stick with what i'm doing and give him time. Trouble is he's fit in so perfectly I forget we've only had him 12 short days!

Scuttlebutter · 24/10/2013 22:23

Too Old - yes, it's completely normal. I have forgotten what it is like to go to the loo in peace without a pointy nose poking round the door. They do gradually settle and get used to home life - keep reminding yourself of the huge step they have just taken - it's natural they want reassurance, especially as this is the first time in their lives they have not been with other greys 24/7. What you'll find is that they gradually like to be in the same room, then in the same general area, then can do OK being on the same floor of the house, and you've really cracked it when they wander off to the garden or their favourite upstairs bed for a sleep when you are in the kitchen, say. But even now, I'd say they are quite nosey and like to see what's going on and what I'm up to.

TooOldForGlitter · 24/10/2013 22:58

How long do you experienced owners generally walk for? At the moment we are doing about two and a half hours walking per day split over three to four walks. He is pretty knackered by the time we are heading back but still eager and happy. Am I pushing him too much?
