Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound ).

Come The Day
Come the day I take that final bend,
Can I count on you to be my friend?
To see I?m treated just and fair,
It means so much to know you care.

For, what the future holds in store,
Now that I can race no more,
Should be addressed for every hound,
Who parts the punter from his pound.

Tell them I don?t ask for much,
A kindly word, a gentle touch,
Somewhere warm to lay my head,
A meal each day to keep me fed,
Not just life- but quality,
This is how it ought to be.

Do not see me swept away,
I long to live another day,
With peace of mind, tranquillity,
And those who care surrounding me,
So tell them all- you have that choice,
I beg of you to be my voice.

In the day time she's rarely if ever alone as exP works from home, not sure if he'd be able to watch and work, though he is like a mother hen with one chick if ever anything is wrong with her :D vet just called and she is all fine and stitched up, she was so calm they only had to give her local so that's a relief.. Except that she will be wanting to tear around. Will keep her on the lead in the garden, as sometimes she can get up to full speed ripping round it if her walk is delayed..

cinnamongreyhound · 18/10/2013 14:27

My old girl had some teeth removed and was very miserable after her op, didn't eat for a while and the vet gave us food for her for the first 3 days afterwards which was light on the stomach. I would have though the chicken will be softer if it's boiled but I guess you can cook it in the oven.

Not quite the same but we had a cat hit by a car and she had to live in a cage with gentle walks out for three weeks, almost impossible to stop a cat jumping when you let them out! So worth as she healed well and 8 years later is still going strong with a slight limp as one back leg is shorter than the other!

I just cried at a guy on the phone feel really bad and silly now :( Blush

cinnamongreyhound · 18/10/2013 14:29

Sorry x-posts, glad she didn't need a general :)

moosemama · 18/10/2013 15:02

You can boil or roast the chicken. I did wonder what you were thinking of doing with the rice. Grin

Glad she only had the local, GA's are always such a worry with sighthounds.

VanitasVanitatum · 18/10/2013 21:18

Thanks for all your help :) I made her rice and boiled chicken anyway because she loves it and she's feeling a bit sorry for herself, she absolutely scoffed it so not too worse for wear! Got some peanut butter to freeze in the king overnight :) you Ok cinnamon?

cinnamongreyhound · 18/10/2013 21:51

Yes thanks. Money is very tight and BT decided to take their DD early so I went over my overdraft. Called them to find out why and he gave me some crap about customers not wanting so long between the bill and payment being taken. It was written in my bill but its online so I don't look at it mostly and he was telling me how they're within the DD guideline and I just cried and told him I didn't have the money for bank charges and I was going to cancel my account as after 14 years with them they were being very unreasonable. Poor guy just doing his job has hysterical woman on the phone over a £25 bank charge :(

PeanutPatty · 18/10/2013 21:55

I hate money at the moment Cinnamon. We've had so many things go wrong I can't tell you. Is there no way he would waive the charge?

PeanutPatty · 18/10/2013 21:57

Vanitas - pleased to hear your hound is feeling bright and hungry after the op!

cinnamongreyhound · 18/10/2013 21:59

After my blubbing and threats to leave he's said if send a copy of the bank charges they will refund them off my bill, didn't expect that as he was repeating that they were within the guidelines.

PeanutPatty · 19/10/2013 09:32

Surely he can see the charges on your account on the screen in front of him? Drives me bonkers. I always think crying is a far more effective approach in these types of situations.

VanitasVanitatum · 19/10/2013 09:35

Glad they were a bit more reasonable Cinnamon. I managed to get charges like that refunded by the bank once by writing to them to say I had hardship circumstances (when I was studying and between jobs) they can be pretty reasonable.

She's being a nightmare to keep calm this morning, currently flat out on my bed, but before that wanting to do her usual throwing herself full pelt up the stairs (she's no good at stairs so she goes for fast as possible to make up for ridiculous spider legs going everywhere). Doesn't like moving slowly! Wait til I tell her it's a quiet walk on the lead later..

cinnamongreyhound · 19/10/2013 17:01

The charges will be from my bank because BT took the direct debit early so he can't see them :)

TooOldForGlitter · 19/10/2013 20:43

Hi everyone Smile

Had a good night last night after a week of 4/5 am wake ups! Let Bob sleep in the lounge rather than be gated in kitchen and didnt hear a peep all night.

I woke the lazy bugger up when I came down ay 8!

Bought him a squeaky kong ball today and been in tears of laughter watching him throwing it and 'talking' to it. He's a little (big!) cracker Grin

moosemama · 19/10/2013 20:54

I'm so pleased it's going so well TooOld. Sounds like he's a real character and bringing lots of fun and laughter to your home. Smile

TooOldForGlitter · 19/10/2013 20:56

I'm already considering a second!

TooOldForGlitter · 19/10/2013 20:58

Had a heart-stopper earlier today when walking by the canal. A big fluffy cat darted out from a farmhouse and stood on the towpath, holding its ground and hissing at Bob. He ignored it and we trotted on Grin

Not bad for a boy who only finished racing in August!

moosemama · 19/10/2013 21:22

They're certainly addictive.

Well done Bob for ignoring the cat. Bet your heart was in your mouth for a second there! Grin

TooOldForGlitter · 19/10/2013 21:24

Almost fell in the canal I jumped so much!

moosemama · 19/10/2013 21:29
Grin
cinnamongreyhound · 20/10/2013 10:34

Sounds lovely TooOldForGlitter, we take ours up with us. They sleep in our room on their beds and they don't move until we do in the morning! As soon as dh or I speaks they are both up and over for fusses! Sounds good on the cat front too.

PeanutPatty · 20/10/2013 19:45

I can imagine the feeling in your stomach when the cat turned up! Will he? Won't he? Thank goodness he didn't! Sounds like the fosterer was very honest about him and Bob is a bit of a find. Wonderful. Our dog sleeps downstairs, recently on the sofa. Not tonight she won't be. Covered in mud from her walk in the hideous rain. Anyone know If whips like mud? Our dog rolls in the bloody stuff.

IsisOhIsis · 21/10/2013 00:16

helloooo! Could I pull up a cushion and hang out in here for a while, please? I'm desperate to adopt a greyhound, have been for years, and am finally in a position where I can. This seems like a good place to be!

YourHandInMyHand · 22/10/2013 10:14

Hi Isis! Smile

TooOld - well done to your lad not reacting at the cat! Did you feel super proud of him? Grin

I had a proud moment last night with ShyDog. Had my friend's 2 boys round as friend was ill so 3 kids in the house (shydog was very wary of DS when we got her and has always gotten out of the way when my friend's lovely boys come round), well she was fine! Went upstairs at first but then came down, the boys were all sat on the sofa and she was laid on the rug in front of them!!! Shock Smile

She is also running up to our dog walking people we see each morning and snuffling them for treats. She has definitely come out of her shell - it's lovely to see.

Vanitas glad the vets visit went as well as possible. Good luck stopping the zoomies hee hee.

moosemama · 22/10/2013 10:20

Welcome Isis, sorry can't help with greyhound adoption, as I have Lurchers myself, but there's loads of collective experience on here, so hopefully someone more useful will be along soon.

YourHand, lovely to hear ShyDog is relaxing and coming out of herself.

Vanitas, how is your girl getting on?

MagratGarlik · 22/10/2013 10:36

Just popping in to say if anyone in the East Midlands is looking for a whippet, take a look at Piper on East Midlands Dog Rescue. He looks adorable.
