Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound ).

Come The Day
Come the day I take that final bend,
Can I count on you to be my friend?
To see I?m treated just and fair,
It means so much to know you care.

For, what the future holds in store,
Now that I can race no more,
Should be addressed for every hound,
Who parts the punter from his pound.

Tell them I don?t ask for much,
A kindly word, a gentle touch,
Somewhere warm to lay my head,
A meal each day to keep me fed,
Not just life- but quality,
This is how it ought to be.

Do not see me swept away,
I long to live another day,
With peace of mind, tranquillity,
And those who care surrounding me,
So tell them all- you have that choice,
I beg of you to be my voice.

Quick update. Home checker and her husband just left. They were absolutely lovely and we had huge chat. They brought one of their four greys and she was an utter stunner of a dog; affectionate, calm, gentle just gorgeous. They have approved us so its all go! Could burst! On phone so apols for poor grammar etc.

TooOldForGlitter · 30/09/2013 20:33

DD fell in love. Attempted to exchange dog for child so we could nip down pub but sadly no go Grin

SkipandTink · 30/09/2013 20:43

Congratulations TooOldForGlitter!! Have you a dog you are interested? Sorry if you have already said - I only discovered this thread today

Moosemama, i know, i have many issues with my big boy, some of it my fault, he was my first lurcher, not socialised enough and attacked as a puppy, and I made so many mistakes..but like you say you have been through that before and you understand how it happens and what it means, so I am sure you will be fine this time. Just keep up the good experiences and socialisation. i did so much better with my second lurcher, and think when the time comes to adopt a third i will hopefully get it right again.

She's stopped panting now, so not sure if labour or not. Earlier on I thought definitely! poor old girl, has obviously been used for breeding before. She's such a sad girl really, but getting there slowly. Is currently curled up one one sofa while I have my Skip next to me on the other!

TooOldForGlitter · 30/09/2013 21:01

Hi skipntink

They have three potentials at rescue so we due to meet them all on sat. Am like a kid on xmas eve!

PeanutPatty · 30/09/2013 21:02

Puppies??!?!? Squeeeeeeeeee!! Throwing a puppy into the mix here would have me running for the hills even if they are the cutest things ever!

I'm still cruising Scruples and LL and EGLR window shopping. I'm holding back on sending an application through. Timing is not quite right. I suspect like babies and pregnancies the timing might never ever ever be right.

Sausage seems to be the recall success treat here today. Not frankfurters. Proper sausage. I dropped one on the floor when I was making tea so decided to snaffle it for her Highness. Must keep up with alternating the treats. The vet said she needs to lose a kilo. I need to cut her meals down a bit to allow for the recall treats.

moosemama · 30/09/2013 21:09

You're right there Peanut. Timing was perfect for us when we got Pip, but then events conspired to screw things up and throw out his socialisation. I had visions of the dcs and I going for lovely walks with both dogs during the last week of the summer holidays, but here we are with him only just being allowed out. Hmm

I used to buy turkey sausages from Morrisons when I was training my Wheaten girl. They're really greasy and smelly and dogs will do just about anything for them. How about liver cake - or do you already use that?

cinnamongreyhound · 30/09/2013 21:10

Congrats TooOldForGlitter! We had to wait to hear from ours so lovely you know already. Good luck Saturday, my advice would be don't feel you need to take a dog if the right one isn't there. You can read back and see my frustration at not finding the right dog quickly, we now have the lovely Lola and she's fitted in so well :)

PeanutPatty · 30/09/2013 21:30

Ooh stinky turkey sausages sound good. Thanks for the tip! I haven't made liver cake for a long time possibly years. I do have some liver in the freezer for her so I will make some of that again. Anyone know what the Fish4Dogs Salmon treats are like?

Moose - if only we could all see into the future. Life would be much easier.

SkipandTink · 30/09/2013 21:53

That's great TooOldForGlitter! How exciting!

Yes definitely have a foster dog in labour. Think I am in for a long night, bless her

PeanutPatty · 30/09/2013 22:04

Hope you've got coffee on tap! Will you keep us posted?

TooOldForGlitter · 30/09/2013 22:11

Thats good advice cinnamon, i know i will get there and see them and attempt to convince myself any and all are right dog so going to go and try to treat it as a day out almost and just get to know who is there and see how we get on.

Good luck to your foster pooch in labour skip Flowers

SkipandTink · 30/09/2013 22:12

Yes course I will PeanutPatty - she is currently chomping on a pigs ear. I had to use it to entice her out of lounge as I am sure she thought she could give birth on the sofa !

Scuttlebutter · 30/09/2013 22:21

Excellent news, Too Old Grin

It's often said that the dog chooses you rather than vice versa - quite often, after you've met them, you find yourself drawn to one particularly.

As a matter of interest, which rescue are you with? PM me if you don't want to locate yourself on the board.

This is so exciting!

moosemama · 30/09/2013 22:42

Peanut, Pip and Lurcherboy lurve Fish4dogs treats. We use the training stars as one grade up from kibble, then chicken, then liver cake or sausage or cheese for Lurcherboy.

I also use the Fish4dogs salmon mousse to stuff kongs with and both dogs have developed lovely glossy coats, which I am attributing to that.

TooOld, congratulations on passing your home check. As Scuttle said, I'm sure the right dog will choose you and you'll know when you've found him or her. I was definitely destined to get Pip, I just knew he was mine straight away and am still 100% sure, despite him being a right pita in many ways. Grin

SkipandTink, I will be popping back in regularly for updates, between frequent socialisation trips and home alone training. I have been run off my feet today and that's just with the dogs' stuff, let alone 3 dcs and a house that has imploded after me being ill and out of action for a fortnight!

MagratGarlik · 30/09/2013 23:25

Hello, TooOld and SkipandTink, welcome!

Moose, I have provisionally booked the cottage you linked to Grin. Thanks.

Definitely agree with the "the dog chooses you" way of thinking. We saw several dogs before we got ddog2 and there were a number which we just knew were not for us. We knew immediately with Jess that she'd be coming home. I think we had decided even before the dogs met.

SkipandTink · 01/10/2013 02:25

Thank you MagratGarlik!
Well it's 2.23 in the morning and so far we have four puppies. Think there mayb be more to come as she is still panting. Was not fun. Have been through this twice before with foster dogs, and this was similar to last time, as one got stuck and came out rear end first! Poor doggy was panting and straining for an hour and a half between last pup and this one, I was so close to calling emergency vet and then she did it. At least this is the last time she will have to go through this. She has obviously been through it many times before :(

cinnamongreyhound · 01/10/2013 07:09

Sounds like she's doing well SkipandTink!

I guess I was a but different in that dh chose ours and it took me a while to get used to him, no one from the rescue pressured us but I think it is easy to feel they're lovely and need a home BUT and then ignore that but. Lola is perfect and although we looked at very cute puppies as well I knew she was right. Funnily enough so far she loves dh! So I've got his dog and he's got mine Grin

mistlethrush · 01/10/2013 07:18

Poor lass, I hope that you got through the night OK and foster dog and puppies are doing as well as possible.

moosemama · 01/10/2013 10:39

Oo er, Magrat! I hope you like it. Feels like a big responsibility now you've actually booked it. Shock It's so convenient being set right behind the dunes. Your guaranteed quiet walks on the beach even at peak summer time, because you can always go before and after the families. Pm me when the time gets closer and I can give you a heads up on some of the places you might like to visit around the area. Smile

Skp, Hope your foster girl is ok and all the puppies have arrived safe and sound.

mistlethrush · 01/10/2013 12:04

Which area is this?

We've got a cottage just south of Bamburgh booked again for next year (I think... nothing like looking ahead!) as it was so ideal for all of us AND the dog last year. Except MiL won't be joining us for any of it. Wink

MagratGarlik · 01/10/2013 12:14

Ireland, Mistle. I'm also planning ahead and am organising summer 2014!

The area around Bamburgh is lovely, I went to school in that area.

mistlethrush · 01/10/2013 12:16

Lucky you - beautiful part of the world.

Ireland - we've not made it there yet, but its definitely on my list of places that I'd like to go. The trouble is, that list gets longer each year...

cinnamongreyhound · 01/10/2013 14:24

So many places I would love to go. Any tips on Dog friendly holiday spots would be great as at the moment my parents won't have both dogs so if we want/can afford a holiday it will be with them.

The lady who was trying to get me to have Tess texted today to ask how I was getting on with Lola. There seems a bit of a disagreement over how cat friendly she is Confused, funny how people can see such different sides of the same dog.

All 4 of my cats have used the cat flap today, they are still stalking around nervously but coming in freely which is great after such a short time. Took at least 3 weeks with Peanut to get to this stage.

SkipandTink · 01/10/2013 15:26

Hello, foster lurcher did really well and has 7 gorgeous puppies who are all fawn and white like her, very pretty, and she is very devoted. was a bit worried about two, but they seem to be doing well now, so at the moment just leaving everything in her hands. Now to catch up on sleep!

moosemama · 01/10/2013 15:37

Congratulations SkipandTink!

Sleep well! Grin
