Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound ).

Come The Day
Come the day I take that final bend,
Can I count on you to be my friend?
To see I?m treated just and fair,
It means so much to know you care.

For, what the future holds in store,
Now that I can race no more,
Should be addressed for every hound,
Who parts the punter from his pound.

Tell them I don?t ask for much,
A kindly word, a gentle touch,
Somewhere warm to lay my head,
A meal each day to keep me fed,
Not just life- but quality,
This is how it ought to be.

Do not see me swept away,
I long to live another day,
With peace of mind, tranquillity,
And those who care surrounding me,
So tell them all- you have that choice,
I beg of you to be my voice.

I did have a look through the photos, but can't remember that one.

mistlethrush · 28/09/2013 20:11

Its the 'afternoon at.. ' at the bottom of page 2 of chat. The bitch is on picture 11 I think - then the pair of them at 24 and 27. Not merle but patchy. [and of course some rather good ones of mistlehound along the way]

moosemama · 28/09/2013 20:30

I saw all the ones of Mistlehound - I was particularly looking out for her. Loved the one of her with your ds. Smile

mistlethrush · 28/09/2013 20:56

You can't say that she wasn't concentrating on what he was saying! He won the child handler class - Or perhaps I should say that mistlehound won the class for handling her child so well. Grin

moosemama · 28/09/2013 21:17

A very well deserved win too. You can clearly see how much she loves and responds to him from those photos.

Just had another look. See what you mean about those litter siblings in the brace.

cinnamongreyhound · 28/09/2013 21:46

Your ds and mistlehound look very connected :)

Have seen email thanks moosemama, what are the passes/wristbands for? Is that just for campers, I may be being a bit thick!

Decided to ask ds's and they both went for your favourite! Dh chose bottom of pic with 4 Confused

moosemama · 28/09/2013 22:06

I'm not sure about the passes etc, but I got the impression you have to buy them in advance to gain entry, as security is very tight.

Did they both like the parasol one? That's the one that jumped out at me, I thought it would look lovely against her brindle coat. Smile

mistlethrush · 28/09/2013 22:41

Yup, I liked the parasol one too (sorry, forgot to mention earlier).

If you are helping at Peterborough, you can get free entry. We went last year, dogless, and we paid to get in - it wasn't horrific prices (can't remember, but think it was something like £7.50 for an adult or something - but DH sorted and I wasn't really paying attention - it certainly wasn't break the bank sort of cost to get in). I'm helping both days - so I have managed to get me in on sat and me and DS and DH in on Sun. There's a thread about volunteering etc.

Just noticed that beautiful Saluki x girl I first fell for months ago has turned up on LL. She was the one who was very ill with a parvo-like illness and nursed back to health by the rescue owner. I didn't apply for her as it was a bit too soon after losing Oldgirl, the rescue owner was making failed foster noises and they had serious interest from someone local to them who already has one of their dogs.

I can't believe she hasn't got a home yet, she's 6 months old now and absolutely beautiful photo here. I think she was with an Irish sighthound rescue organisation when I first saw her and was moved to the UK when she was strong enough, but seems to be with yet another rescue now. Poor girl. I feel awful for not applying now, but if we had, we wouldn't have Pip, so it was right for him, even if it wasn't for her. Sad

TooOldForGlitter · 29/09/2013 18:34

Ive joined the thread finally despite not being an owner, yet!

There is a lovely black dog in the local grey rescue but he's 10 yo and the age is holding me back. I feel heartless just saying it but it worries me him developing age related health problems v quickly. Unsure as always!

mistlethrush · 29/09/2013 19:20

Tooold - we wanted one under 5. I know it sounds heartless - but that way DS won't have to cope with losing another too soon I hope.

TooOldForGlitter · 29/09/2013 19:42

Just spoken to the lovely woman at rescue who says he is in long term foster and they plan to keep him so thats great for him. They have three new boys coming in this week so im due my homecheck and then we driving up saturday to meet the hounds. V excited now!

PeanutPatty · 29/09/2013 19:48

Moose she is a real beauty! Love the Black and Tan markings.

moosemama · 29/09/2013 20:12

TooOld, lovely for him that he gets to stay with his fosterer and very exciting for you being homechecked and then meeting potential new family members. Keep us posted! Grin

Peanut, she was absolutely adorable as a tiny pup as well, she really pulled at my heartstrings but it was bad timing, as we weren't ready, we were working through Lurcherboy's SA and losing Oldgirl was still very raw. Just had a quick check-back and it was June 23rd I posted about her on the old pointy thread.

I was so sure she'd be snapped up, she's so beautiful. Sad

PeanutPatty · 29/09/2013 20:33

I bet she is found a gorgeous home soon, ESP looking like that. I wonder what happened?

Any of you on EGLR FB page? Have you seen the calendar photo entries? There are loads of fantastic looking hounds out there. So glad that I don't have to decide as they all deserve a month.

moosemama · 29/09/2013 20:37

I think now she's up on LL she should find a home pretty quickly.

I haven't been on the EGLR FB page for yonks. Might go and have a mooch now though. Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 29/09/2013 21:31

I'm on it, lovely lovely dogs!

Don't feel bad moosemama, you can't rescue every dog! Having kind of randomly found Lola after we'd started to think about puppies I do think the right dog is meant to be somehow.

Hi TooOldForGlitter, I think it depends in your circumstances re age. We'd just lost our dog so I didn't want to go through that again so I didn't want an older dog to go through that again too soon. Glad you don't have to feel guilty now and good luck with your homecheck. We have an ex racing greyhound and a whippet/terrier cross who we've only had 10 days but has fitted in so well!

Took Lola for a 10 mile run today and she still came out and ran like a loon with peanut 2 hours later and went in the river. She's also been chasing conkers around my mums living room! Peanut gave me the saddest look when I went without him and took Lola but he really couldn't do that mileage and she loves the exercise.

PeanutPatty · 29/09/2013 22:36

Please can I borrow Lola to go running? Grin A guy at Park Run had his Springer doing it with him. I was a touch envious.

Saw a lovely lurcher this morning. He was black and hairy. Straight in the river! Are lurchers waterbabies?

mistlethrush · 29/09/2013 22:41

My lurcher is a waterbaby. She looks completely the wrong type of dog to swim (and indeed, I understand that some lurchers are hopeless) but she's really good. Because of her long neck, she's not worrying about being too low (actually, she quite often swims along and drinks at the same time) - she takes very long pulls and is remarkably efficient. She came swimming with DS and me in Devon in the summer.

cinnamongreyhound · 29/09/2013 22:48

People seem very surprised that peanut likes the water so much but I think Lola was totally surprised at ending up in the water and jumped straight out!!

mistlethrush · 29/09/2013 23:07

We have spent a merry hour or so this afternoon 'extending' our side gate. Hopefully now it will stop mistlehound from popping over to eat the cat poo in the pine needles in the border next to the drive Envy (not envy). Possibly unsurprisingly, having seen us putting it up, she has not asked to go down the garden for the nth time this evening yet. I'm not sure whether that's Grin or Hmm

cinnamongreyhound · 30/09/2013 11:20

Shows she bright enough to know there's no point so Grin mistlethrush! Lucky you told you us it wasn't envy over cat poo Wink

Tess is now on LL. Looks like she's not at cat friendly as they first thought, so lucky we didn't get her.

mistlethrush · 30/09/2013 11:37

Mistlehound was skulking by the backdoor this morning after her early morning jaunt - so she's definitely worked out that she's not meant to go over the gate anymore!

Tess looks lovely, but quite bully (not that that's a bad thing, but some are put off by the looks) but it is a good thing that you didn't try her out wrt the cats!

moosemama · 30/09/2013 12:17

Lurcherboy isn't a water baby. He's a hopeless swimmer and looks more like he's drowning that swimming when he does end up in the water (which is frequently when we're on holiday, as the daft bat keeps forgetting where the edge of the sandbank is and falling in! Grin).

Tess looks just like my friends old dog. He was a real character and loved by all. Smile

Well, someone rang our doorbell at 1.00 am this morning. Dh ran downstairs thinking there must be an emergency, checked out the window first and there was no-one there. Confused Then the penny dropped - our camper is away at the garage at the moment and I reckon someone was checking to see if we were away on holiday. What we have realised as a result of this is how hopeless are dog are at guarding the house - neither one barked, although of course it woke Pip up, who then wanted to go out for a wee. Hmm

Can't think of another reason why someone would have rung the bell at that time of night and we have a long driveway, so there's no way it was just someone messing around, because dh would have seen them running away. We reckon they rang it then nipped round the side of the house out of sight to see if there was any response. Hmm

Horrible walk with Pip this morning. Yesterday he had such a great afternoon at a country park, started approaching other dogs and saying hello and wasn't phased by a thing. This morning he decided he was scared of everything - even things he usually ignores and has been fully socialised to, like pushchairs. Confused He was shaking like a leaf and tried to bolt from every single dog he saw, even though they were a distance off and not paying him any attention. Managed to get him to do a circuit with the help of a jolly voice, lots of persuasion and mounds of chicken, then sat on a bench to see if he would calm down, but no, he just wasn't having any of it. A mum from the school came to chat with her Patterdale pup and he backed out under the bench and hid behind me - so I just ignored him - then when they'd gone he saw a Cocker who was a bit barky, playing with a ball and completely ignoring him ... he jumped on my knee and growled at it. Hmm

So, he's only ok with other dogs if Lurcherboy is with him. Now trying to decide whether it's best to just keep taking them together so he gets lots of interactions and learns other dogs are ok or carry on trying to get him settle on his own, as I don't want him to become dependent on Lurcherboy.

Mistle, was your collie ok with other dogs on her own eventually after she'd learned how to interact from your terrier x?

cinnamongreyhound · 30/09/2013 12:20

The lady who was trying to persuade me to have her said she wasn't that bully but all the photos I've seen she is. She sounded like a lovely dog we just didn't manage to see her. I think bull anything puts people off though you're right.

I heard my two slam into the front door about 2 mins after I shut it this morning! They were fighting over a toy but I gave them their treats as I always do when I go out but guess they went straight back to it! Came back from school run and couldn't get in, their running around had pushed the mat folded up right in front of the door! They are now flaked out in the little bit of sun that's coming through the patio doors.
