Puppy poo

I'm worried about my 9wk old Labrador. His poo is whippy like, sometimes a bit mucous like and has blood in it a few times. He's fed Burns puppy chicken and rice, we knocked the training schmackos on the head as a probable cause, and since then he's had bits of cooked chicken and raw carrot as treats. The only other thing that could be a factor is his love of chipped bark. (I am not sure if it has cocoa in it as its been down for years but topped up with British sourced play bark).

What do you think? Change his diet to a new non chicken and rice feed (I'm not doing BARF) or just cut off the garden area with the chipped bark to see if that was the problem. We are going to the vets tomorrow for jabs so I will mention it then.

Advice please!!

I'd say maybe but I'd want the vet to check in such a young pup anyway.

Our lab has had lots of issues with his tummy as a pup but we got it under control by only feeding hypoallergenic food and being very careful with how much we give him! He's on Pero now and seems more settled with good firm poos so i refuse to change it even though we have to order online every time.

The slightest overfeed results in a runny bum so we ignore the weights given on the bags and have muddled along and found the right balance for him and increase/decrease based on how much running around he does in the day.

The vet will give him a good once over and if they are anything like ours they will be very used to Labs with sensitive bellys and owners who are obsessed with poo!

It could be something as simple as greedy lab syndrome!

I should have also said about insurance, make sure yours is all set up and running before his vet check just in case it is anything that could be ongoing.

Hi sallybear congratulations on your new arrival! When did you pick him up? Toby isn't it? My new lab puppy had terrible diarrhoea for the first couple of days but I think now it was just due to the stress of coming home because he has been fine ever since. I can't remember what food he was on now when we got him but I know the breeder had just changed it so that didn't help his tummy either. I put him on Natural Instinct for a few days and he was right as rain after one or two days. Let me know how he goes in the next few days

Amy, off to the vet today. Poo is still odd and he slept all day yesterday. Glad you got your pup. Please join all of us new puppy mums on this thread
