Need help with Kenny's bum before we all die!

Usual staffie problem...he has been fine on dry food with a drop of gravy for 7 months, but recently has gone off this and has not been eating. DH bought a tin of cheap stewing steak in gravy and gave him 1/3 of this with his bicuits, cue Kenny gromphed the lot with much tail wagging and lip licking, cue we are all dry heaving every 20 minutes at the smell of his bum! What on earth can we do?

Raw!

My BT used to have everyone gagging at puppy class. Raw has meant no gas, less than half the poo and a dog who eats for the first time ever. It got rid of the constant runs and costs no more than the 'premium' dry foods he was on before like Eukanuba and Arden Grange. He costs me between 20p and 80p per day depending how generous I feel!

So what do you feed then? S'cuse my ignorance.

Arghhh typed you an essay and them MN went down so forgive me if this is not so thorough!

You look to feed 2 - 3% of their ideal bodyweight daily. This should be balanced over say a week to work out at 80% muscle meat (any meat minced or diced inc heart , fishand tripe (green not the bleached stuff for human consumption), 10% bone, 10% offal (liver, kidney). I feed his offal ration once a week in one go.

Bone wise it's mainly chicken wings, lamb and pork ribs and various bones from Morrisons which they sell as stock bones, about 25p each but still really meaty (often lamb spine).

I can get pet grade minced chicken, beef and tripe locally for 40p per pound but there are lots who deliver.

Main points are raw (most important is NEVER feed cooked bones), variety and don't mix feed with kibble as digested at different rates.

Raw eggs are great too, can have them shell and all if they will.

my staffie + anything beef = toxic fumes.

We have banned her from anything beef and she is no longer toxic!

mmm see we're veggie and much as i love Kenny I'm not sure i can get that up close and personal with all that 'bloody' stuff. there might be something in the beef - hence the stewing steak incident. wow, now even more confused i think, but thanks for the input!

We feed Rose 'barking heads' and her bum does not stink on that, we try to avoid beefy treats too.

As an experiment give Kenny a tin of beef pedigree chum...I dare you...

ClaimedByMe · 27/08/2013 08:47

Another tip when Rose gets a bit fed up with her dried food is a few blobs of natural yoghurt mixed in.

LordLurkin · 27/08/2013 10:55

Claimed! ..... That is just cruel. Pedigree chum in ANY tinned form used to make my old lad utterly unbearable, but the beef one just made it worse.

dandycandyjellybean · 27/08/2013 18:41

Claimed that is very naughty! I know the ped chum - arse stink link!!!
