Is this bowl any good for a Cocker spaniel?

I'm not a dog owner, please help...

My dad has a lovely cocker spaniel that has a special spaniel water bowl at his house, its keeps the ears out of the way apparently. My dad's birthday is coming up & there's nothing he wants, I ask him what he wants & he says nothing, if he did want something he would buy it & if he can't afford it then there's no way I can.

So I'm going off on a tangent this year, he has a Cocker that he is absolutely devoted to since my mum died a couple of years ago. This dog has everything :) But I also sponsor dogs for DS1 through Dogs Trust & the catalogue has just come & I might buy my dad a few doggy things that I think he won't already have & that he will use. This bowl:

doesn't have ear things, would it be OK for a spaniel or would he not use it?

Also would you be happy to get this as part of a gift

www.dogstrustgifts.com/acatalog/Dogs-Trust-Treat-Pouch.html

or is it pretty useless in practical terms.

The dog is really active, loves swimming in lakes & rolling around in all kinds of horrible stuff, would a dry shampoo be OK to buy for him? Dad doesn't wash the dog himself, he sends him to a dog grooming place as & when required.

Failing that, can you think of any suitable gifts? :)

I have a cocker too so completely understand your day's devotion. I would love a special gift for my dog rather than me. The bowl is definitely handy, I have something similar and it was a good buy. I also have a treat pouch which only gets used for training club as she doesn't get treats on walks.

I wouldn't worry about the ears getting in bowl, it's not for everyday use so not an issue. I did see some gorgeous handmade glazed spaniel bowls, which personally I would love, but think they were a bit expensive. You wold need to google though.

I personally wouldn't use either of the things you linked to but had you considered getting him vouchers from the place where he gets his dog washed ? Most places do them and if the dog goes regularly it does add up .

Just googled and it was the chow bella ones I loved. They are £20 though. Really is a bit steep.

Thanks all, just looking at Chow Bella ones now :)

Good idea, something for the dog, and also supporting the dogs trust!

I have a cocker - she just eats and drinks from an ordinary bowl. I keep a collapsable bowl in the car (she comes running with me on Park Runs), but I'd only use a treat bag for sepcific dog training classes (and I usually just have a bag of treats in my pocket.)

They do get mucky - I find the handiest is some special doggy wet wipes, for a quick rub down.

I'll have look through the Dogs Trust site, and see if there's anything that catches my eye.

The mug has a lovely golden spaniel on it, and the drawstring bag would be useful for carrying bits and bobs.
