Bitch in season... Is this just the smell lingering??

My bitch came in season a few weeks ago (first noticed blood 3 weeks ago today) and stopped bleeding about 11 days ago. She is no longer swollen, behaviour totally back to normal etc, so this morning we went back to normal walking with her friend, a 10 month old border collie boy. They played lovely as they normally do, were very happy to see each other after 3 weeks apart, but then suddenly he seemed to get her scent and started trying to mount her. She was not receptive in the slightest and told him off, and we got both dogs back on their leads, but I'm wondering if maybe this season has lasted longer than normal, or if it's just a residual scent (going to bath her this afternoon and a liberal dousing of bitch spray just in case!)?? Slightly worried as I go on holiday at the weekend and she will be staying with my friend and her 2 male dogs and I'm concerned that the smell will still be there and she'll keep being harassed iykwim!

My girl was in season for longer than 3 weeks < she is to be spayed next week>. After her vulva shrunk back and it was over, the boys were still excited at her smell, so I bathed her . Not that any of the neutered dogs tried to mount her no matter how hard she tried to seduce them. She did set her heart on a Rodesian Ridgeback who towered above her and I couldn't see how he could have managed it as she is only 10" highGrin .
Wash all her bedding as well.

Bitch spray is a waste of money. NOTHING will put off an amorous dog. A bath will help a bit, but ...

A season lasts approx 28 days. The bitch will be fertile for approx 1 week, a period of the season which is often marked by bleeding stopping. It can also go a straw colour before it stops. After this, some bitches start bleeding again, some don't.

You're cutting it fine with your holiday as your friend has two male dogs. Although your bitch is unlikely to be fertile, she is still likely to be a appealing or dogs. Your friend may have a difficult time, tbh.

Well she's been swimming in the lake tonight and had a good bath when she got back so hopefully it will have helped. She was playing with a male lab while we were out (after her swim) who didn't pay any attention to her so fingers crossed. She's 5, so has had several seasons, and she's normally over and done with by three weeks so hopefully this is it. She was actually early coming into season, was originally due while I was away, and the original plan was for my cousin to come over and dogsit, which was far from ideal as he really isn't that used to dogs and I felt very uncomfortable about him walking her etc whilst in season, so would prefer to send her to my friends, but we'll see!
