Dog got bitten in unprovoked attacked - vet bills?

My dog got bitten in an unprovoked attack. Sad He'd had treatment at the vet and will need to return in a few days. Obviously, I would not deny my dog treatment but money is tight and I don't know if it's cheeky to ask the other dog owner to pay the bill...?

If your dog was under control then it's not cheeky at all.

Of course the other owner should pay. My neighbour's dog was attacked and badly injured. He gave the initial vet's bill to the other owner, who threw it down and said he couldn't pay it. The injured dog needed 8 weeks of treatment before dying. My neighbour never got a penny and was left with huge debts.

My puppy was recently bitten and had to undergo a GA to repair his nose.

It was an unprovoked attack, the other owner footed all the vets bills

It's entirely normal and wholly appropriate. In fact, if they had a shred of decency they would have offered. Check your house insurance/pet insurance - you may have legal cover. If so, give them a call and they may be able to take action to recoup costs against the other owner. Vets bills for even a relatively minor "scrap" can really mount up, especially with ABs, stitches, checkups, maybe any tests and don't forget that if your dog was traumatised, there may be a need to work with a professional behaviourist afterwards too. Sad

Thank you for the replies. Fortunately, crashdog wasn't very badly injured but he's quiet and not himself at all. It's so sad, he's usually such a happy boy.

ask them to pay if they get arsed and say no tell them you'll be reporting them to the dog warden / police. we had a similar situation when our dog got attacked by another dog they wouldn't pay until the above got mentioned then footed all the bills. Grin

get arsey not arsed stupid phone

Also, I would definitely report the incident to your local Dog Warden. It's important they know about it - it's quite possible this is not the first time this has happened with this dog.
