Dog food advice needed please?

We've just inherited two lovely dogs from my dear FIL who died recently. They are a 13 year old border collie who is still very fit and quite skinny (healthily so, I think, our vet was very impressed with her condition) and quite a medium size terrier (his rescue papers from France say he's a Griffon cross) and he's about eight years old, a tiny bit chubby but very active.

At the moment they get half a tin each of Pedigree meat and some generic mixer food at six pm every day and no snacks.

Big dog (the collie) has very good poos but little dog is a bit squitty occasionally (sorry if TMI!) so I would like to make sure I'm feeding them a good diet for the best health but hopefully it breaking the bank - any good recommendations? I've read on here that Skinners is a good brand?

I've never had dogs before so I don't really know what to aim for, have read round the subject but there's a lot of info out there and I'm confused!

Thank you, if you can advise me.

Without breaking the bank, I meant!

Pedigree is not good tbh, it's like feeding a dog a happy meal every day! Try here: www.whichdogfood.co.uk/

Great, thank you, that site is exactly what I need!

If they are used to wet food with a mixer, I would introduce a good quality dry food and something to moisten it with; I often feed a tin of tuna sardines or mackerel mixed in with her dry food, and oily fish is very good for their coats! Avoid dry foods with a high cereal content and you'll find poos will become much firmer. They also tend to eat less of a good quality food, so overall, it doesn't work out much more expensive!

I looked through the dog food review site, and have ordered some Eden for both my dogs and cats, so we'll see how they all go on that for a while after gradually moving them over. It has no cereal and very good reviews, so worth a go I hope. Also should work out reasonably priced, as you say, they apparently need less when it's high protein (though greedy Little Dog and Fat Cat will never believe that).
