Hayfever

Dpuppy started with hay fever yesterday, lots of very odd reverse sneezing and snuffling.

He's been checked over by the vet, and been put on Piriton, even with puppy club discount it cost me just over £29 - which probably breaks down as £23 consultation and £6 for the meds, but there aren't many in the bottle.

DH thinks that people Piriton will be just the same so when/if he needs more we can get it over the counter at the pharmacy.

Anyone done that?

I'm guessing the vets will give it on repeat after the first couple, so it should only cost the meds after that.

I should add, I'm happy to pay for whatever he needs, just don't want to pay unnecessarily. Our vets are great but they employ a lot of American vets who really know how to rack a bill up.

No reason why you shouldn't buy it OTC and save money.
Piriton is Chlorphenamine maleate, sold under various brand names, all much cheaper than Piriton but exactly the same. If you go to Boots or independent chemist just ask for cheapest Chlorphenamine tablets. My dog has 4mg tab twice a day for hay fever, bought pack of 30 tabs for around £2. Best not say its for a dog if you get asked.
