Help entertaining an active dog banned from walks

My 5 year old Dally cut his paw earlier. The vet has stuck it back together and bandaged it. He is banned from going on walks until Monday at the earliest, when it has been looked at again.

I am concerned about keeping him quiet with the puppy about, they usually play quite vigorously. So far he has been subdued but I think tomorrow could be different,

Also, he only does his business on walks, he hasn't pooed in the back garden since he was 5 months old. I'm worried that he will get distressed when we don't take him out this evening.

Any ideas?

For entertainment I'd practise any tricks he knows; paw, sit, down - anything calm. It may be basic stuff for a 5 year old, but the rewards; attention, praise, treats, etc, should be enough to lift his spirits and keep him happy.

What we did with a previous dog when he had a broken leg and wasn't allowed walks, was that we tied a plastic bag over his bad leg, put him on lead and just walked across the road. It simulates the walk, so even if he doesn't poo on the walk, he might be happier going in the garde if the 'walk' part of his routine has been fulfilled.

Other than training at home, I'd go for some mental exercise toys. The Kong Wobbler, the Kong Genius Leo and Buster Cube are much more popular than the classic Kong here.

Our dog was limping quite badly, and the vet thought that it could be a back problem, so she wasn't allowed to run or walk for a week or so. Turned out that she had probably just sprained her leg while running on a very icy road.

We were allowed to take her out for short, slow walks for pee and poo, but not exercise. It was 5-10 minute walks, and we let her spend time smelling everything as it also tends to make her happy and tired.

We had 36 hours with no poo (unheard of for the poo monster) so we had to do a short walk. Bundled him in the car, went to a patch of grass and walked up and down it until he produced something.

We have 80ft of lawn in our garden but he will NOT poo there, so we've been going to the same bit of grass all week! Hopefully he will heal soon and he can roam free in the woods once more.

Anyone know how long it takes for a cut in the pad to heal?
Whilst he isn't bleeding the slice is still open.

My spaniel cut his pad quite badly on glass a couple of month ago.
I bathed it daily and made him wear a boot (proper dog one) however he could not be off the lead as he is completely nuts when out got so much mud stuck to the boot running across fields that it would fly off!

He wore one boot for outside, then changed into the other one for indoors as it was quite muddy at the time.
Although he did his usual walk, I kept him booted and on a lead for a week. He kept the boot on all day but not at night.
After a week I let him run free but still washed the paw for a couple of days to check the wound wasn't opening up again.
