Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound :o).

Come The Day
Come the day I take that final bend,
Can I count on you to be my friend?
To see I?m treated just and fair,
It means so much to know you care.

For, what the future holds in store,
Now that I can race no more,
Should be addressed for every hound,
Who parts the punter from his pound.

Tell them I don?t ask for much,
A kindly word, a gentle touch,
Somewhere warm to lay my head,
A meal each day to keep me fed,
Not just life- but quality,
This is how it ought to be.

Do not see me swept away,
I long to live another day,
With peace of mind, tranquillity,
And those who care surrounding me,
So tell them all- you have that choice,
I beg of you to be my voice.

Oh my goodness, been onto eglr facebook. Fallen in love with Boyd.

Thanks Moose, there are loads more on there than on the website:)

moosemama · 15/08/2013 19:12

No, I know what you mean. There are quite a few who do have blanket policies, but as I learned from being on here, the better ones tend not to.

moosemama · 15/08/2013 19:12

I have to go and look at Boyd now ... Grin

moosemama · 15/08/2013 19:24

Boyd is gorgeous, but I'm rather taken with Bear and Cinders the Whippet cross pup is just too cute for words.

I love little Larry's face as well. I have a bit of a thing for dogs with eyebrows. Grin

sebastianthesingingaubergine · 15/08/2013 20:08

Yes I've looked at Larry a few times on the website. Cinders is beyond cute, I'm just partial to a bit of scruff :)

moosemama · 15/08/2013 21:38

Me too - well that's obvious, given my two scruffy boys I suppose.

Lurcherboy has the best of both worlds. He's lovely and scruffy with huge Dennis Healey style eyebrows. Grin

mistlethrush · 15/08/2013 21:46

But, but, but what about Heidi's litter of 8 wonderful squiggy lurcheryish gorgousness?

Heidi was resuced from being PTS by Lurcher LInk about 6 wks ago - then went in to be spayed, and they discovered, when they opened her up, that she was expecting. The puppies are LOVELY - quite a few merles, some black with white and a grey (Heidi is black and white) - the colouring suggests that the other half might be collie ish? Heidi is being such a good mother in the circs - she's let her foster family pick up her puppies, and even been chummy with some young children.

(Sorry, but I have been glued onto their thread as any photos are so lovely, but I'm not allowed a puppy - or indeed a 2nd dog (at the moment))

cinnamongreyhound · 15/08/2013 21:54

Just been to have a look, Larry is gorgeous but I liked storm. Dh said but we don't need another dog and what if it doesn't like the cats!

moosemama · 15/08/2013 22:19

I mentioned LL has a litter that will be ready to go late September, I just wasn't specific enough. Blush They are really gorgeous pups.

Cinnamon, I liked Storm too. He has similar colouring to Lurcherboy, but is much more slender. I have a feeling that's what Pip's going to turn out like. He may turn out to be taller than Lurcherboy, but he's going to be far more slightly built.

cinnamongreyhound · 15/08/2013 22:35

I like scruffy and I'd like something smaller than peanut if we did go for a second. As you all know peanut is a bit larger than I'd have liked Wink. He seems totally fine when left now which puts my mind at rest but at the beach yesterday he went after every dog he found to play and he loves out doggy runs so it would be great to have a friend for him. My problem really is that after school I have up to 8 children in the house and me and I'm a bit worried that two dogs would be too much. I can talk dh around if its what I really want I think but I'm not sure it's a good idea. What I really need is for someone to pay my bills so I don't have to work then it'd be fine!

We met a guy at the greyhound walks dog show who was a failed fosterer. He had fostered a dog and kept her!! He had 5 dogs, 3 of them lurchers and so now was helping out as he couldn't risk having any more Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 15/08/2013 22:37

How do I find Heidi? Found an auction for her pups but can't find a thread on her.

mistlethrush · 15/08/2013 23:35

Her thread is in chat... you have to be a member to get into chat I think. She's not on the 'available' threads yet - and neither are the puppies (unsurprisingly).

cinnamongreyhound · 15/08/2013 23:55

Soooo cute!! I'd never have a puppy myself but they are so adorable. Would love cuddles :)

moosemama · 16/08/2013 10:17

Fostering is a great idea cinnamon, then you can see if it will work for you and it's not a lifelong commitment. The rescue forums are filled with failed fosterers - nobody minds a bit, it just means the dog has found it's perfect home.

Pup is on form today. Slept 10.30 to 4.45, then again from 5.00 till 6.30 when dh got up. He is wholeheartedly unimpressed at discovering proper torrential rain though. Spent his morning wee trip hiding in the shelter of dh's golfing umbrella, trying to squeeze between his ankles to get to the absolute driest spot. Reminded me why it was a good idea to get him in the summer hols, rather than waiting till the dcs go back and ending up standing there in all weathers waiting for him to go.

Poor mite has zero body fat and a really thin coat, so I need to get him a waterproof coat sorted sharpish, if the weather's on the turn. Will need some nice snuggly ones for the Autumn/Winter too, so will probably be knocking on Scuttle's door. Lurcherboy had a coat at this age, but ended up with a nice thick shaggy coat, so never needed the next size up. Pup's coat is much finer and wispy than Lurcherboy's was though. Dh won't be impressed. It's been a very expensive month what with the holiday, puppy costs and a dead washing machine, not to mention the VW Camper's MOT. Shock

sebastianthesingingaubergine · 16/08/2013 21:39

Aaaaargh! So frustrated!

Spotted a beautiful lurcher on a local rescue page, not scruffy like I thought I wanted, but gorgeous anyway. 6 months old, good with cats and kids. Perfect. I messaged them and asked if she was still available, explained all about me and the family etc. Get a reply to say the dog was rescued from Greece, and that she has 'promised the foster carer in Greece" that the dog will be re-homed with another dog. She has been with them several months now, and I bet I'm not the first to offer.

I mean, really? Do they want these dogs re-homed or not? Its not like she is an older dog who has lived with another dog her whole life. In a pack I suppose! We could really provide such a lovely lovely home, forever, and it just seems impossible to rescue:(

Feeling deflated.

Have messaged EGLR about Boyd now, although I reckon he has been homed. Hoping they will restore my faith in rescuing a dog.

sebastianthesingingaubergine · 16/08/2013 21:40

Moose, there is going to be a 'heatwave' next week. Go buy a coat, it will guarantee it!

moosemama · 16/08/2013 21:51

Sebastian, ELGR may well suggest other pups for you once they've assessed your circumstances. If I were you, I'd ask to be homechecked by both ELGR and Lurcher Link, then you'll be in the best position possible to be first in the queue when the right dog turns up.

I have indeed bought him a little raincoat today (royal blue with rainbow striped fleece lining) so next week's weather is assured.

Perhaps I should get onto ordering his winter housecoat from Scuttle too, to ensure we have lovely weather throughout September as well! Grin

My two are being so cute this evening. They're lying on the floor opposite each other touching front and back paws. I really want to take a photo, but if I get up to grab a phone/camera they'll both move.

cinnamongreyhound · 16/08/2013 22:05

What does scuttle make? She said she was at the greyhound show but wasn't quite sure what I was looking for!

moosemama · 16/08/2013 22:17

If I'm right, I think, she's the proprietor of Milgi Coats which has a link in the OP.

PeanutPatty · 17/08/2013 00:26

So the Rescue I've applied to I haven't heard from so I called them. The first dog I was interested in has ongoing health issues and is not for us. The second dog I am waiting for more news from the fostered. I've not yet had a home check and its been a few weeks. I'm wondering whether to hang fire or look elsewhere.

Scuttlebutter · 17/08/2013 00:36

Yes, I'm Milgi Coats Smile And interestingly we've been selling our fleeces right through the heatwave, and through summer generally. In a "normal" British summer (drizzly and sunny intervals) the nights can get surprisingly chilly especially if you are camping, in a motor home etc so we do a brisk trade catering for happy campers. We also get lots of people who just want to be organised (a bit like getting school uniform really early I guess). Our next show outing will be at the South West Greyhound Gathering on 1st September down in Upottery - i can't wait as they do the most awesome cream teas Grin

Just also wanted to endorse EGLR - they really are an excellent rescue and are ALL volunteers. You will be in very safe hands if you adopt from them - they really know their dogs.

moosemama · 17/08/2013 09:18

I was wondering about that Scuttle. I would love to get organised, but have no clue how big he'll be by Autumn, so have to hold off a while. Definitely needed a raincoat though, poor things looked like a drowned rat and was so shivery after he got caught in a downpour in the garden yesterday and it's chucking it down again this morning.

Pip gets too hot in his bed at night at the moment and starts flopping about whingeing. Mainly because he has a hot water bottle, high-sided puppy bed that's lovely thick sherpa fleece with a lovely squishy mattress and no fewer than three blankets and two cuddly toys. Blush

I do love a nice cream tea. Envy

My new washing machine was delivered at 7.00 am Shock this morning. So you can guess what I'll be doing all weekend. Hmm

cinnamongreyhound · 17/08/2013 17:05

Could have said hi scuttlebutter, was actually looking for a tent of destiny Blush!!!!!!

I had a cream tea for breakfast as I was run director at park run so I processed results in the tea rooms at the country park.

Spoke to dh last night seriously about another dog and he said of I want one its fine but why would I want to disrupt everything when we've just got back to normal. I can see his point! Every dog I've seen on LL and EGLR that I like are no cat safe though so maybe it's fate. Thought Bear was so cute but really don't want a puppy. Could also go for a second hound from RGT then there would be no need for a second home visit. Think ill give it another few weeks and see how I feel. My gut just tells me Peanut would be happier with a companion but maybe it's something else that's making me want another dog like dh not wanting more children?

PeanutPatty · 17/08/2013 17:13

RGT?

When you apply to a rescue when do you get home checked? Dies it happen as and when you see a dog that is suitable or pretty much after your application is received?

PeanutPatty · 17/08/2013 17:15

Cinnamon - I've recently discovered Park run!
