Just left puppy at the vet overnight with possible twisted gut - so worried about her!

She was fine all today, went with her for her walk, she had her dinner then laid down next to us whilst we ate ours then all of a sudden, woke up, vomited and went into a sort of dozy stupor, really not herself at all. Straight to vet who stayed late to see her, they were still open thank goodness, also he saw her yesterday for something completely unrelated and could immediately see the difference in her. Said she was quite dehydrated and they will do tests tonight and an ultrasound to see what is wrong but possible her gut is twisted or something like that. She is so little, only 5 months old, the house seems so quiet without her and I am just sitting waiting for the vet to ring to tell me if they will need to operate on her. Not really sure why I am posting but feeling a bit shocked and very upset thinking of her staying at the vet feeling so miserable and ill, I can't bear it. :( Also DS 5 now upset as had to take him with me and he heard the word operate and thinks they are going to put her to sleep as we had our cat PTS just before Christmas. I can't believe she is so ill so suddenly. Has anyone had a dog with this condition?

Not the same thing but my mums Ragdoll cat had two bowel resections as emergencies at 4 months old due to intussusception within the space of 3 days and in two different areas of his bowel . At the time we thought we would lose him but he is 11 now and apart from being as mad as a box of frogs he is fine . Try not to worry ,she is in the best place and they are surprisingly resilient.

Thanks for that floral. Reassuring to know as I have been thinking the worst. Yes the vet was lovely, he was staying overnight himself there, so I know she is in the best hands.

We did. We had an 8yr old shepherd. I'm sorry to say he didn't survive. Is the vet absolutely sure it's twisted guy?
You have done the best thing getting puppy to vet quickly.
Our friends dog also had it twice, and survived happily and well both times.
Thinking of you

Twisted gut is obviously very serious and some animals won't make it, but some will and will go on to be fine.

Your puppy is in the best place. Nothing more you can do. Fingers crossed for a great recovery.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog. Twisted gut is serious, but the sooner you get them to the vet the better chance there is. My boy had it in 2008 and is still alive and well today. There's really nothing you can do until you hear from the vet - but he sounds good and I'm sure pup is in the right hands. I will keep my fingers crossed for you all and hope to see positive news in the morning.

Vet has just phoned and thank goodness the ultrasound has shown only a section of very irritated bowel and no twisted gut/intussusception. He is still doing a few tests of blood and faeces but has ruled out the more serious things he was talking about earlier, phew! And she is on a sedative to help her sleep and keep calm, I was a bit worried about that too as she is so lively! Ok I think I might be able to get some sleep now.
