My dog has allergies which I'm trying to manage myself with a premium diet and antihistamines. She has conjuntivitis which is allergy related. I've read that bathing the eyes with black tea really helps.anyone else tried this?

Camomile tea? I used that for DC when small, it does help, but isn't a quick fix. So now with DC I get drops from pharmacy.

My Dog gets recurring conjunctivitis, which might be allergy-related. The advice my vet gave me was to clean her eyes regularly with water boiled in the kettle and left to cool. Also you can go to a human pharmacist type place and get gloopy eyedrops - she was specific that it had to be the gloopy type. It's the same as fucithalmic, but without the active medicine part so you can apply as required, rather than needing to do the full week's course.

I do recommend cool tea to bath dogs eyes with as there is evidence that the tannins in the (strong tea is best) have anti-inflammatory properties.

Frettchen is talking about viscotears it is similar to fucithalmic, but formulated to be like human tears. There is a product lubrithal that is exactly the same artificial tear base as fucithalmic and as such is closer to cat and dog tears than viscotears (also comes in a bigger tube).

Thanks everyone. The black tea is helping and will look into the gloopy eye drops.i would never refuse vet treatment for my beloved pooch but I'm sure the vet would rather tell me about medication that he can sell me after a costly consultation than home remedies and over the counter stuff - after all he s a business!!
Ps. New to this is DC cat?!!!
