I know there is a huge grey thread, and I apologise if this has been covered, but - teeth cleaning! Our retired grey hasn't got many teeth, and she hates having the few she's left being cleaned. Any advice, tips that can make it easier?

Raw bones? I go to a local independent butcher and ask if he has any bones for the dog. I usually end up with beef ribs and my greyhound loves them. His teeth are in pretty good shape for a 6yo Grey :)

Hi there. About 5 weeks ago we bought a section of stag horn from the local pet shop. It has kept our doggy's teeth absolutely pristine. Apparently, the hard marrow in the centre keeps the doggy chewing endlessly, which our little dog certainly does. OUrs isn't a grey hound but thought this might help - it's a relatively new product according to the pet shop.

If her teeth are sore she won't chew on bones (or will not chew on the bad teeth) so sorest teeth tend to be the dirtiest.

Try putting the toothpaste on your finger and dab it on her gum- get her used to that. Then use a finger-brush (Vet/petshop) or just a rag on your finger to brush her teeth.
Like kids, moving target + hard toothbrush= sheer frustration sometimes!

Thanks, everyone! The stag horn sounds fascinating? Her teeth aren't sore, she manages her chews, so will try some of these ideas. thanks, all

Try different flavours of toothpaste? Ours love our current one (just from Pets at Home) but didn't like the old one.

I tried a finger brush but that was hard to use, so we use our old human toothbrushes now and that seems to be more palatable.

I started with a finger brush too but it was loose on my finger and the dog had the idea he ought to be biting it, so he nearly ate the damn thing. Now I stick to a toothbrush!

It takes time to train a reluctant dog to like it, just take it slowly to begin with.
