Dog poo, gardens and a crawling baby!

I have 2 x wonderful dogs and a DD, 8 months old. All getting on fine so far, fingers crossed.

However I am after some advice about the garden and dog poo. Our dogs do poo in the garden, wherever they like on the lawned areas. We pick this up daily, as you do, and are quite strict about it. If I ever take DD into the garden I do a check first incase there is a fresh one lurking. BUT, someone told me that I shouldn't let my DD crawl or even toddle on the grass in case she falls over, as even though we collect the poo, tiny particles stay in the grass and if she touches them, and then puts hands in her mouth, she could get that dog poo blindness thingy. Is this true? I feel a little alarmed. I feel sure when I was a child and we had dogs, I scampered around in the grass all day long and barely washed my hands before bed, let alone for lunch or supper....

Any thoughts anyone, and if so any ideas on what we can do?

Many thanks in advance.

i dont know the answer to this so hopefully someone more knowledgeable will come on soon...however, I would hope that keeping your dog's worming treatment always up to date would also help. I have three little ones and they are brought up in the same way you were Blush and no problems so far!

There's no danger to your dd as long as your dogs' worming treatments are kept up to date.

Ideally though, it would be better to train your dogs to go in a specific area of the garden, then there would be no risk of your dd coming into contact with dog poo at all, which even if not dangerous, obviously isn't pleasant.

There was a thread on here in the last week or so about worming protocols - I'll see if I can find it for you ... [http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/the_doghouse/1750848-How-frequently-do-you-de-worm?pg=1 here it is]].

I've split my garden into a dog toilet area and a poo free zone! Maybe that could help?

I have same problem but vet says as long as up to date on worming treatment then no problem.
