I've had conflicting advice here in Forrinland so I thought I'd ask you sensible peopleSmile

There is currently no anthelmintic resistance in dog and cat parasites mainly because they are nearly always correctly dosed. A lot of the issues with farm animals are almost certainly the result of under dosing either deliberately or accidentally - let's face it drenching with white wormer often results with the administrator getting more of it than the animal. This is emerging evidence of resistance in horses again under dosing is probably the cause.
OP you say your are in Forrign land do you need heartworm protection? Are you in an area with the tick borne disease then advice would be very different to that given hear? Are you in an area with sand flies?

Drontal every 3 months & Advantix for ticks and fleas every month. We have a bad tick problem here.
Advocate does lungworm and fleas amongst others, but not ticks.

Some people are alternating the Advocate and Advandix in places where ticks and lungworm are a problem, month about. It's a sort of compromise treatment.
Also ticks need to attatch for Frontline to work & they die pretty quickly but that explains why you may see attached ones. Advantix kills on contact. Bear in mind too that ticks carry Lyme disease.
You really have to weigh up which disease your pet is most at risk from. Your vet will advise.
It would be so good if there was just one preparation that did the whole lot!

Can I ask advice ? Our 11 month jrt will eat fox poo. We are infested with foxes.

He appears to get worms about every 2-3 weeks, despite otc worming pills.

What can we do?

Lonecat I'm in Chile and not sure about the heartworm. All I get out of the Vet is "don't worry". I need To do moré research on line. I'm fairly sure we don't have sand fleas. One if my problemas is the OH's view of looking after animals ie they are fully capable of looking after themselves and he shouldn't need To have pay out all the time.

I also need info re UK because we might move back and I'm now thinking that bringing the dogs may not work, cost of looking after them properly being 1 factor.

Lonecat,

Can I ask you something?

I have recently got a puppy, the vet gave me a worming tablet, which I gave,
I also bought drontal puppy solution as advised by my breeder.
I haven't used this yet.

When I went puppy training last week the trainer said we mustn't use wormer bought from anywhere apart from the vet!

She said that there were some batches about (not necessarily drontal) that had something in that was harmful to dogs, because they haven't been used up yet, but have been discontinued, so no more are being made, but still available online.

Have you any idea whether its safe to use puppy drontal?

Thanks
