Gwen Bailey Perfect Puppy is full of pack theory!

I've got it to reread as I'm looking for a specific puppy book to recommend to clients. I don't recall it being to Barbara Woodhousey but a quick scan through reveals lots of pack theory. Apparently dominance aggression is the most common reason for dogs to bite owners!

I hear it recommended all the time, including here, and it's ashame becausealot of it is good.

Back to recommending Pamela Dennison until I've read Sophia Yin's one. I feel like a kid who's discovered their favourite childhood cartoon was racist,.

Have you seen Life Skills for Puppies? I really like it. It's by Helen Zulch and Daniel Mills and is based on the puppy training classes at the University of Lincoln. It's very user-friendly and has gorgeous photos so your clients will like it too.

Perfect Puppy has some very good advice, but I could not get over the patronising language and pics of beautifully turned out owners with obedient dogs whilst I was stood outside in the rain with a puppy hanging off my jeans trying to take them off from the ankles whilst looking away and supposedly bored - for ten minutes! That phase has passed. I am still working on my new book - the Rubbish Puppy.

Yep I soon ditched it. Full of pack theory and very condescending. No acknowledgement at all that we all make mistakes and actually gave me massive puppy anxiety!
