anyway, they want a household with kids age 13+ so that's us out (although would seriously consider rehoming DD to have Wispa instead)

Catsdontcare · 16/03/2013 14:21

Oh good lord would love them both. But have cats Sigh....

bulletwithbutterflywings · 16/03/2013 14:30

Dammit. I need to avoid these threads... DP has said no to a pointy hound and DS is only 3. :(

Catsdontcare · 16/03/2013 14:36

Dh has said no to a hound full stop. Hmm we'll see. Actually whilst we have cats I won't as I would love a pointy dog, but once they expire well it's whippet a go go in this house.

Trills · 16/03/2013 14:39

I don't normally like skinny dogs but she is very pretty

BehindLockNumberNine · 16/03/2013 17:49

I love her. I already have a rescue pointy dog (whippety cross) and am working on dh to sneak a second one in.
A few weeks ago I was looking on Battersea and fell in love with this lady

I really want her. But youngest dc is only 10. Although very mature and dog savvy...

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 16/03/2013 18:10

So sad to see all those beautiful dogs in a shelter :( I hope they all find a forever home!!

Inclusionist · 16/03/2013 18:25

Gerald looks awesome. Now I need to go on rightmove and look for a bigger house!!

My grey-lady is such a madam though, I'm not sure she'd sign the forms. And lurch-boy gets all jealous is anyone goes near his girl ( no idea why, she's the worst girlfriend ever, he doesn't even get any bed some nights )

Moomoomie · 16/03/2013 18:34

Do many places rehome dogs to families with children under 8. It doesn't look like Battersea do?
Our wonderful collie died last summer at the grand age of 16 and I really don't feel like our family is complete without a four legged friend.
We are still at the thinking about it stage at the moment. Our youngest dd is nearly 6.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 16/03/2013 18:37

I expect it's an average estimate on their behalf of an she where children can be expected to understand how to act around a dog and to know how to properly pet them.

For a family who's dc's are familiar with being kind and gentle to animals and are used to listening to orders about giving animals space etc they may well make exceptions.

BehindLockNumberNine · 16/03/2013 19:08

When you look at the dogs on the Battersea website you will see that some can be rehomed with children 8+ and I think for some dogs it states that they would be suitable for families with even younger children?
It is sometimes to do with the bounciness and the nature of the dogs as much as the behaviour and understanding of the children in question.

I want them all Sad

They are all beautiful! I wish we could have another, but no room. Maybe one day...

SusanTheGranddaughterOfDeath · 16/03/2013 22:23

What about Tex www.battersea.org.uk/applications/dynamic/?id=21075? He is just lovely.

NotMostPeople · 16/03/2013 22:29

She looks a lot like my pointy, similar age too. No more dogs, three is enough.

superfluouscurves · 18/03/2013 07:58

I live in a city but am working on realising my dream of having a dog/horse/veg plot in the country

Here's one from my local rescue centre [sniff]

wish I hadn't browsed now

diddl · 18/03/2013 08:24

Cats-have you got a teenage daughter??

Husband said no to me.

But a few years later when the TD seriously started pestering him-we has a dog three weeks later!!Grin

LadyTurmoil · 18/03/2013 14:05

Pointy lovers better not look at this one either Smile

Floralnomad · 18/03/2013 14:10

diddl that was my experience as well , no dogs allowed until the 11 yr old (at the time) started pestering , we had an agreement to get a dog on a Thursday and collected our Battersea special on the following Sunday , before OH had a chance to change his mind .

Catsdontcare · 18/03/2013 14:54

No diddl I have boys. I'm fairly certain if we had a little girl who could stare him out with watery eyes our house would be over run with mutts!

diddl · 18/03/2013 15:11

I suppose husband was right in that we waited until chidren were older & in theory(!) could help out-not that they do!

But at least if they are ill they can be left & if I'm ill or away they can pitch in!
