I've had a Miele Cat and Dog for 4 years now, and it's coped with daily hound-hair hoovering - Miele C&D usually come out pretty high in consumer tests.

If I had to see how much filth was being swirled around in a Dyson I might just move out.

ILikeToClean · 14/03/2013 16:44

Our puppy is coming home with us next weekend and I have ordered a Miele Cat and Dog especially (currently have a Dyson but I don't rate it). But then I have also ordered a Bissell carpet shampooer and a paw plunger to try and hold on to my clean house - this puppy will not beat me! Grin

phantomhairpuller · 14/03/2013 16:48

I think I'm the only person on MN who really rates the Dyson Animal. We had a Henry before that which was rubbish in comparison. Never tried the Miele mind you Smile

GROOVEYCHICK · 14/03/2013 17:30

we have the dyson animal and it copes really well with our golden retreiver and husky which together equal hair ,mountains

D0oinMeCleanin · 14/03/2013 18:05

My Dyson Animal did really well until it met the inside of the PC and then it died Sad On the one hand I no longer need a new PC otoh I now need a new hoover Hmm

I'm not sure whether I did well or not? Confused

Will be watching the thread though, although the Dyson picks up well, this is the third one I have had, they seem to die every 3-5 years.

SpicyPear · 14/03/2013 18:08

Hmmm, I love my upright Dyson and can't help but wonder if the people that moan about them clean the filters as recommended. Maybe that's unfair though!

D0oinMeCleanin · 14/03/2013 18:10

Filters you say? Confused

Where would one find this filter and would cleaning it revive my Dyson? It won't turn on. It just switched itself off halfway through hoovering the PC and refused to turn back on.

Sunshinewithshowers · 14/03/2013 18:14

Ive been looking at getting a 'furminator' de-shedding comb, for my dog, that should cut a lot of hoovering out OP?

SpicyPear · 14/03/2013 18:14

Here you go D0oin - you can pick your model and it will show you Smile

Dyson support

Also, depending on how long ago you did it it may just need to cool down. Mine did this one year when DH used it to vacuum the pine needles from the Christmas tree.

ReluctantBeing · 14/03/2013 18:15

Henry.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 14/03/2013 18:53

I have a Dyson Animal and a Mile Cat & Dog. The Dyson sits unused as the ancient Miele pisses all over it.

paddythepooch · 14/03/2013 20:38

Miele - sorted my allergy to the cat's hair. Worth every penny. my friend grooms her lab in the park - helps keep the tumble weed down and gives the birdies something comfy for their nests

SelfRighteousPrissyPants · 14/03/2013 21:53

My puppy's not too furry yet but the miele cat and dog is great! And you can get cute pics of the dog in the box... or is that just me? Grin

Itsnotahoover · 14/03/2013 22:02

If your dyson is dying every 3-5 years you need to be calling them and getting an engineer out as they have a 5 year parts and labour guarantee. The average lifespan for a dyson is 7 years and 1 in 3 households apparently have one so you can't go wrong! Although I am a little biased Wink

Imsosorryalan · 14/03/2013 22:58

Another vote for the dyson hereGrin I've got the dc animal cylinder and its fab. Feels a bit more flimsy than my old dyson but then it has the swivel ball thingy. It picks up my shaggy dog hair with ease on carpet, rugs and floor although it does try and suck up my Lino all the time..

HotPinkWeaselWearingLederhosen · 15/03/2013 07:16

Yes. But Miele give you 10 years and you never use it because they don't die at all

The only reason I have a shiny new Dyson is that I was fed up of the same engineer visiting regularly. So Dyson have up and sent a new one.

HotPinkWeaselWearingLederhosen · 15/03/2013 07:17

Vacuum .... Not engineer.

Itsnotahoover · 15/03/2013 07:25

To be fair, my dads dyson is 20 years old ths year and has never broke down. Not sure he vacuums as much as he should though Grin

HotPinkWeaselWearingLederhosen · 15/03/2013 07:28

Is it a Dyson 1? Original Dysons don't die. All descendants do. I think James panicked when he realised inkillable vacuums don't make £££££s Grin

Itsnotahoover · 15/03/2013 07:40

Yeah it's a DC01, practically an antique nowadays! Logically though, one that breaks down costs dyson more money as they have to send out an engineer every time, certainly while it's under warranty anyway! I will not be swayed from my dyson Grin

SpicyPear · 15/03/2013 09:36

weasel I'm so disappointed by your clarification. Had a great image of you on the phone telling them you were bored of the engineer and to please send a different one, like Dyson is some sort of escort agency Smile

Floralnomad · 15/03/2013 10:22

I've got a Morphy Richards hypoallergenic and its fabulous , although my dog has his hair clipped really short so not a massive problem . I'm also not a fan of Dysons , have had uprights and cylinders and never really loved them . However I have a Dyson handheld which is excellent and have just bought a Dc35 animal , because my mum ha sone and they're lovely.

issey6cats · 15/03/2013 11:22

another dyson fan here i have four cats and a dog and it picks the hairs up brilliantly a bit heavy to use but worth it
