Background: 10yr old Havanese. Never had any sort of problem with weeing or pooing in house since he was toilet trained. Has direct access to secure back garden via dogflap. Walked every day. We have a 15month DS, few growling incidents but generally no probs between dog and baby.

In the deep snow in January he did two wees and a poo on the lounge rug. We put it down to the snow and replaced the rug. Then he began to poo on the deck in the garden, not a problem but a noticeable change from pooing on the lawn. Then about four weeks ago he pood in the kitchen. Small hard poos so no upset tummy. Then this morning he peed again on the new rug, exact same spot as before. Rug is 80 quid a time so this is not a cheap habit!

It's getting us down very much as can't help thinking this is the beginning of "something". Obviously we've decided no more access to the lounge or upstairs unless we're with him and vet is seeing him tomorrow. Does anyone have any ideas or advice? Is it possible he's bored or stressed in some way? He seems very content and has always been placid, generally follows DS and I around the house and we have cuddles, he is no longer into ball chasing or physical games as he tore his ACL a couple of years ago and can't really run. He is overweight cos of this but not hugely so. His mobility is generally fine though.

Surely a visit to the vet is needed pretty quickly? Sorry if you've done that already but you don't mention it...

Sorry, missed it! Hope the vet will be helpful tomorrow

Get the dog to the vet and clean the rug. Hope he is ok.

Clean the area with diluted vinegar, it neutralises the smell which cleaning products or bleach don't, and hope the vet can help :)
