We have opportunity to stud out Lhasa apso and were not sure what to ask for as renumeration? He is full pedigree but we don't have papers! His parents can both be seen as we are friends with his owners! What would u say is the going rate?

See Kennel Club info on using pet as a stud dog. Responsible breeders would want a dog that has special attributes, i.e. won recognised awards, proven record of siring exceptional pups. Also health checks must be done to prevent passing on breed specific problems, which can be expensive. If the owner of the bitch doesn't ask for this they're not responsible owners so best to steer clear.

Why would you breed a dog without papers?

digerd · 24/02/2013 11:56

How do you know he has a pedigree if he has no papers? With pedigree papers in Germany, it cost 33% of the price of a pup, or more if dad is a champion. And they are mated twice during the crucial time i.e 10th and 12th day after female's start of her season.

Bluntly, if you don't have a registered dog and you are not breeding to further and better the breed, you are nothing more than a back yard breeder who is trying to make a quick buck, thoroughly irresponsible and you're adding to pet over population.

Don't do it.

Thanks for advice!
