Pointy owners: could you give me a couple of book recommendations about owning a greyhound/whippet type hound?

Ta muchly.

I am a frequent lurker in The Doghouse. I would love to have a dog, but am waiting for DS4 (currently not quite 3) to become slightly less insane before even considering/looking for a dog.

I grew up with dogs (rescued mutts most of them, one purebred pekinese who had been a wedding present to my parents Shock) so have a vague idea what having a pooch involves.

I have done a bit of reading, mainly on-line, and think a rescue greyhound or similar would be perfect for us. Several books have been mentioned on previous threads but I cannot them for the life of me find them. If anybody has any ideas what I might mean Confused, I'd be foreever grateful.

My greyhound has no recall whatsoever. In the year I've had him he has been off lead twice. The first time he was really good until he spotted a cat on the other side of the field, I had to go and fetch him back Hmm the second time he went off was with 2 friends dogs, his whippy best friend, another greyhound who has great recall, a doberman X and a border collie. He was so interested in the fun they were having that he didn't notice wildlife. But for some reason that has made him very keen so now he notices wildlife everywhere!

My friends whippet had a bad accident at the beginning of december and now her owers are too afraid to let her off lead on the usual field so when she's fully recovered her owners will take her, me and Sprocket to a dog training field which is fully enclosed. And they will be able to belt around together which will be great!

You could ask around Pacific, find local dog training classes and ask if the premises they use are fully enclosed and maybe you could take houndy there for a good run every so often, or ask at riding schools, they often have secure indoor schools which are perfect for offlead running!
