Snow and the lab puppy

Does snow make all puppies go loopy? He is excited and has lost all commands and recall. Also I can tell he is finding it difficult to poop with no grass in sight, took 20 mins this evening in the garden before he just HAD to do it, much against his better judgment. Took ages to settle him this evening, barked at every sound outside - very unusual.

It's not just puppies , my dog goes mental at snow every year , I think he forgets that he's seen it before . Goes into mad terrier mode !

My dog was unimpressed, until I let her in the front garden with DD and 10 of the neighbourhood children (massive snowball fight), at which point she forgot her name and wouldn't respond to me (is normally my shadow!)

I had to go out (7 months pg, in my dressing gown, old tracksuit and fluffy socks/fake uggs - classy!) and drag her back in Grin

She then cried at the window and annoyed me that much that I got DD to take her back out, but this time on the lead.

They both came in half an hour later, drenched, frozen, exhausted but very happy - Dog was smiling I swear Grin

Must be all dogs. My Border Terrier pup had been tearing round the garden and randomly sticking his whole head under the snow. He then comes in to wipe his snow encrusted beard on the carpet. Grin

No, not all dogs. I was so excited to take my rescue dog outside this morning. I don't know if he's seen snow before (not sure of age, but under 2).

No reaction whatsover. I'm thinking of renaming him Killjoy.

foolishdog (springer) sticks head in snowdrift then belly wriggles/worms her whole front half in then sticks nose in air and runs madly round and round in circles before repeating...and repeating and repeating..............

also usually is unimpressed by the idea of playing with dogs...would rather follow nose into muddy puddles and undergrowth but today she is everyone's best friend and leaping everywhere like a loon....Grin

Snow brain, wonder how long it lasts!

my youngest cat has been playing Ninja Kittens in the snow - so it's not just dogs Grin

Have never laughed so much at such a stupid animal, he was doing rolls and tigger jumps, meerkat impressions (not the Russian accent, the standing on hind legs), taking running jumps at the bin (covered in snow) and skidding off, then doing it again.

Not.Normal.

Pupiranha made her usual dash for the back door this morning and tried to do an emergency stop when she realised everything was white. Of course the quarry tiles were slippery and she shot out into the yard, decided that this was great fun and ran round to do it again... and again... and again!

She then proceeded to mad dog round the garden spooking at everything and grabbing mouthfulls of snow. Much fun was had chasing snowballs with the kids too.

She was knackered this afternoon. Curled up next to me on the bed and snoozed for hours.

Hullypup has also gone giddy. She keeps trying to jump up at random strangers when out to spread the joy, we thought we'd cracked that bad habit.

However we saw the worlds officially best trained dog ever, ever, ever, go loopy today and try and slip her lead to come play. Her owner was Shock

So either the snow is sending dogs batty, or my dog is a REALLY REALLY bad influence on all the others!

Well that's a relief. Glad it is not just mad lab puppy. Met another lab owner yesterday, my puppy rushed up (on lead) to greet, other owner said 'oh we have met YOU before haven't we' in a very cutting miserable way. Her pup just as overjoyed to meet mine so we had full lead knotting and encirclement. Not a smile from her just groans and sighs. Maybe she had a bad day. Luckily the next lot of dog owners could not have been nicer. Have a feeling we are going to meet her again and again.
