Advice on introducing parents new puppy to my dog

I was looking for a bit of advice on how to go about introducing my 4 year old (and quite lively/playful) cairn terrier/jack Russell dog with my parents 8 week old Yorkshire terrier puppy.

They met briefly today; the puppy was very eager and playful and started nipping my dogs ankles, whereupon my dog growled so we separated them.

Any advice on how we can create a harmonious environment when we come to visit again?

I find it helps to walk the dogs together outside, before taking them into a home environment. Start with both dogs on leads, and then off lead and let them get to know each other. You have two lively breeds there, plus your jack is male. I've read that older female dogs are excellent at helping puppies socialise, and that has worked with my male cockapoo (9 months) and female adult labradoodle. My sisters came recently, with two westies, and a sky terrior between them. We took all 5 dogs out for a walk, initially on lead, and then off. There was a bit of sorting out, especially between my pup and one of the westies (with attitude) but by the time we came home, all the dogs settled down together. I think it's unlikely your jack will be anything other than appropriate with your pup. My 15 year old cross breed was like Victor Meldrew with our pup - which helped the pup learn some manners. Nothing scary, just a deep growl, and the occasional air snap if the pup was pestering too much. I expect others on here will have good advice, but I'd say enjoy it.
