Complicated situation, but to cut a long story short our puppy has been with a friend for two weeks.
We collected him today and I noticed he had some scabs on his body. Rang friend who said he might have picked up a flea from her cat.
I've never had a pet with fleas before, so googled, did the 'brush' test and to me it looks like fleas. We've bathed him in shampoo and water, 50/50 as advised by the net.
We've put all the animals bedding outside - pup is now on a clean fleece blanket and older dog on clean towels.

Having never been in this situation before I wanted to know firstly, other than take him to the vet, what we more we can do to help him?
Secondly, having had only today with him in the house is it likely that the fleas will have got upstairs on our clothes and get into our carpet and beds (downstairs is tiled)? He did come into the lounge for about 5 minutes, then the cat came in for a bit then went upstairs onto our bed. I've got visions of waking up to a completely flea infested household tomorrow morning!

PS I should say that I have only seen what I thought was one flea on him. It didn't jump when I put my finger near it though Confused

Fleas jump like mad things and are quite hard to squash. What makes you think there are fleas there?

What sort of coat does your pup have?

You won't have a flea infested house by tomorrow; do you have a nit comb or similar?

We have a beagle so his coat is quite short. We think it's fleas because he's scratching. We did this test where you have to brush their back and put what comes off them on something white and wet (I did wet kitchen roll). If there are little black specks that dissolve into being red then it can mean it's flea excrement apparently. That's exactly what happened with our puppy.

Think we'll go to the vet or chemist tomorrow to get something for a pup his age. He's still scratching today Sad

ps no nit comb, we haven't had those yet either, touchwood!

Cats are a nightmare for fleas, if not properly treated. I'd get some proper flea treatment from your vet, and also a good spray to kill any that have snuggled into your furniture/carpets etc, where they can live for ages. Horrid things, fleas
