Can you still buy Heinz 57 puppies!?

I was talking to my dad yesterday saying that I'd like a small dog that doesn't malt much-maybe with a bit of poodle/bichon in and maybe the size of a cocker/cavalier king charles spaniel. We looked them up and crosses between these dogs (cavapoo/cockerpoo/cavachon) which AREN'T pedigree as they are cross-breeds, cost about £200 more than the pedigree poodles/cockers!? My dad said scoffingly that they used to be called mongrels/crossbreeds and didn't cost the earth!

I know that there are mongrel/Heinz 57 dogs out there-the dog rescues are full of them, but can you actually get a (less than £700) cross breed puppy and if so, where!?

Rescue is your best bet. You may have to wait a while.

A particular type of crossbreed will cost you, as a lot of effort has gone in to making sure they are healthy, well matched mix etc. But an 'any old dog' mutt will be easily found in a kennel.

Or is it the case that because the breeds I like are 'small, cute and fluffy' (as my dad put it!) that they will cost far more?

Best suggestion is rescues, rather than breeders who give posh names to their dogs, which are still x breeds - my friends have just adopted two gorgeous dogs sounding similar to what you're looking for, but not puppies.

yes try a rescue

There is no such thing as a cross breed or mutt that is guaranteed not to moult much. Even the poodle crosses could take after their lab counter parts and shed like a bugger.

You can buy them if you are happy to support BYB, puppy farming and the exploitation, neglect and abuse of animals for the sake of a fat wallet.

Rescues have puppies too, especially at this time of year when people are breeding for extra pocket money and then realise they can't sell them.

many tears has many (!) puppies of various sizes and ages www.manytearsrescue.org/display_mtar_dog.php?id=5566 they foster all over the country and seem good at matching and caring for people and pets.

Hillside animal sanctuary has a steady stream of Heinz 57 puppies coming over from Romania and are responsible and good at matching people and pets www.hillside.org.uk/HillsideDogRescue_000.htm

whan I was much younger (!)we got our cross breed from an advert in the local vets an "accidental litter" so we saw the mum (dad unknown) didn't have to pay anything though we did reimburse them for the vet bills.

Dog2 is much as you describe she came to us at a few months old and would have lived only another few days if she hasn't been removed from her owners by the RSPCA. She simply had not been fed, never walked, no vaccinations - nothing. We paid the RSPCA £100 and this included all her vaccinations and micro chipping. She is now alive, happy, well fed, part of a family and loves nothing better than a good run around in the woods.

Please rescue.
