Hi I expect you are all in bed by now but I am just having a little panic about our Springer girl.

Foolishdog is 4 intact (but not for much longer) female. Normally wees very seldom, prefers to wait for her walks but does go in the garden if needs must.

I have just tried to put her into her crate (normally her favourite place other than sitting on my feet)..she refused and I "arranged" blankets to encourage her only to find that her bed (a folded double duvet in a cotton cover) is absolutely sopping wet. Not smelly, just wet. No wet on the floor, not wet around walls, just her bedding.

She has not been crated today, has had 1 short (30 min) and one long (2 hour) walk, weeing and pooing as normal, has slept on various bits of carpet around house (she's a downstairs dog) seemed a bit lacklustre inside and has done a bit of "carpet digging" which is uncommon but not unknown for her. She was her usual mad self out.

Any ideas??

I've found a couple of pillows and a towel for tonight and crated her with the rest of the bed in the back porch to sort out tomorrow as my machine is already on.

When she has been for walk is she weeing normally? Did the bed smell odd for her? Is she licking a lot down that area? Has she drank a lot? Is their something in the environment that may have scared her? Any discolouration in the urine? U had her long? Sorry lots of questions

Weeing normally when out, not paying any attention to herself "down there", drinking a little more than normal perhaps, she smells normal, played with DCs, sleeping normally, not pacing or agitated, eating normally. Bed ok this am. We've had her since September from a rescue...so relatively early days.

In the cold light of the morning I wonder if she went in her bed very wet after her morning walk and I didn't notice (she swims at any opportunity and it was raining lots).

If only they could talk!!!

It could be the answer. After a wet walk in the rain, next time, towel her dry and make sure she is dry before getting into her bed. Dry Beds are brilliant to put in basket, but must have a plastic waterproof sheet underneath. It is not usual for a dog from 4 weeks old to wet/soil their bed, unless they have nowhere else to go to do it. Incontinence at her age is not expected.
A urine infection could probably cause this. If it happens again before her spaying op, should see vet.
Hope all goes well for her.

Thanks...feeling guilty because I always towel her off after a walk (she's a spaniel she is always wet and muddy) she has the biggest towel collection in the house! But maybe she went and curled up whilst I de booted and hung up my waterproofs....then came out to be rubbed off having already soaked her bed.

anyway, will continue to keep an eye on her, she is definitely drinking more than usual, but that might be the central heating I guess. She saw the vet nurse today as routine pre-op weigh and measure and she couldn't see anything wrong.

Was her bed dry this morning, hope so?

foolonthehill · 17/12/2012 10:59

Yes...I think I was fussing over nothing Blush. Just couldn't think how her bed could be quite so soaked through. I wonder if she would wear a rainmac?? at least some of her would stay dry in the deluge

Oh, thank goodness, but it is strange to me too. My little dogs were rubbed down with towels, but they did not go swimming, and then we had blankets on our sofas and sat on them with us.
Good luck with her spaying, and don't worry too much about that.

Grin thanks!
