Using a long line... it sounded great in theory!

I bought it ages ago, thinking that'll come in handy, it got stuck on everything, hurt my hands and monster puppy decided it was a bizarre game of fetch so he kept picking it up, bringing it back to me and looking at me expectantly Hmm

Not so successful for ensuring recall - it was fairly amusing to watch though Grin

Made me lol! We bought a long line for our lab pup for training. By the time she had grabbed in her teeth, dragged it round and round and generally tangled us both up, i gave up and put it in the garage where it has remained.

Yep, I've decided that it isn't coming out again...however funny he looked trying to bring me it.

To be fair, his recall's pretty good considering he's a puppy, it's just that nothing I can do is as exciting as another dog. I thought I'd try and work on it now, I'll have to do it some other way, lol.

Don't pick it up - stand on it! And you have to set up the walks you use it on - use it in a field, not a wood; use it when you know it will be quiet not when it's busy.

I was in a field, just me and him...I hurt my hands trying to untangle us Blush

I suspect it requires more co-ordination than I have. You know, like, any at all, lol

I was saying about other dogs, just because that's why I thought I'd do some work on it - not because I was trying it round other dogs... Shock I mean if that's how badly I mucked it up with just us, an you imagine the tangled mess if there's been other dogs or people? rofl

TBH I tried a longline with mine and he still wouldn't come back! In the end I chopped it in half and the first few times I let him off he had about 7 ft attached to his harness which I could stand on / get someone else to stand on if he wouldn't come back or come close enough to grab. I found a bag of chicken was the best way to teach recall and now I just pick up the football and he knows its time to go home.

He is pretty good, of course he's still young enough to be clingy though, lol, I was just planning on working a bit on coming back quicker and then at some point with distractions...I think I'll do it without the line Grin

I tried a long line and my dog came back beautifully from 15ft away. Without the line he totally ignored me and still does.
