Considering getting a dog but I'm a clean freak - will the two mix!?

I'm starting to get broody about getting a dog and dc would love one (yes I know not just for Christmas etc!)

BUT I'm a bit of a clean freak and I get that dogs bring in mess, mud etc. Just how much of an impact do they have?

This is very early stage and I am being very naive and clueless so this isn't a decision I'd ever make lightly and I will do lots of thinking. I just want to get views on how much mess they are...if it's a lot then it won't be for us.

I have a 2kg pomeranian who i have clipped short. You would never know she lived with us. She won't get her paws wet so if raining / muddy she will teeter on the edge of the concrete outside to pee then scamper back inside. Grin I am a neat freak and think the right dog can make 0 impact :)

Hmm, I have a large daftlab cross. Henry hoover keeps the hair problem at bay and as I'm not keen on stale doggy smell I made sure that his bedding is washable. I keep wipes in the car for muddy paws ( Asda do fab ones& he loves having it done like I said, daft) . I also use doggy dry shampoo ( Again, Asda do a good one)
It is more work- the rugs need scrubbing every week, but its worth it and soon became part of our routine.
