Who else has a Christmas tree under siege?

The dog is stealthy. He stalks the tree, sidles up to it and then oh-so-gently tries to remove a bauble without detection. It's like watching someone attempt 'The Krypton Factor' with their face. All the while, he is scanning the area with comedy wide eyes. If he sees a chance, he will grab a gobful of tinsel and run. This causes all the humans to yell 'NOOOOOOOOOOO' in unison and try to catch the tree. He is enjoying these games enormously. The DC wanted to put candy canes on the tree. Oh how I laughed

One of our previous dogs sounds like yours, CHNE. Several Christmases ago, he realised that some of the Xmas tree baubles were actually CHOCOLATE! Oh, what fun! He literally leapt off the sofa, launched himself at the tree and grabbed as many as he could ..................... Please bear in mind that he was a BIG labrador and he caused catastrophic devastation!! Needless to say, we no longer have chocolate/gingerbread/salt dough tree decorations!

We've just bought a second hand play pen. The lady asked DH how old our little one is.
He had to explain the pen is to protect the Christmas tree from our 13-week-old puppy Xmas Grin

The year after we got our Husky pup, we started hanging our christmas tree upside down from the ceiling (barn conversion, pointy ceiling thingy) becuase over the year we had had her, she had convinced us that this was the only way it would survive. Grin

We now hang 1 from the Dining room ceiling, and put one in the fireplace with a fence around it.

The little monkey will still saunter over to the one in the fireplace and nudge the odd decoration with her nose just to show us that she could take something if she really wanted to Grin

I consider myself VERY lucky. I have a 7 month Golden. We really thought the tree would be in serious danger but apart from stealing a few acorn decorations he's pretty much ignoring it.

It's cute because every time he goes in and out the living room door his tail hits off the tree and a bell decoration rings. Can always tell when he's going in or out of the room.

The cat on the other hand seems determined to climb the tree. Not dealing so well with that.

We used the playpen method too.

We are getting the tree on Saturday and I just know SpicyPup will want to eat it. It will be in a room that he only has supervised access to so part of me wants to put it on the floor and use it as a great clicker training opportunity. The lazier part of me wonders whether we should a) put it on a table or b) not bother at all.

Our current dogs ignore the tree. Much more civilised but not as much fun!!

When my dog was a pup he never bothered With the tree until we went out. He was also scared to death of the ironing board ( no idea why) so we used to tout it up near the tree. He never touched it again

I'm crossing my fingers that he isn't toying with me but 4 month old puppy hasn't batted an eyelid yet. He shot under it to get his ball in the same way he does the rest of the furniture but otherwise it is like he hasn't noticed.

I know the day will come but he has never touched any of the toys in boxes. Lego is a sort after prize but strangely if it is on top of the box he doesn't even try. We have never told him to leave it either.
