Get repulsively wet and muddy, me and dog. Dog stinks

2blessed2bstressed · 26/11/2012 15:07

Dog1 is a cairn terrier, I don't have a coat for him. If its really wet, cold, or snowy (we live in North Scotland), then he just gets a much shorter walk. Dog2 is a chihuahua pup and I take complete liberties with him, and dress him up at every opportunity. He is quite unbothered, but as to whether he needs his wardrobe.......

ProcrastinatingPanda · 26/11/2012 15:09

Dp has banned me from taking the dog out because the weather has got worse, he said he's having a hard time even in wellies with good grip.

HoneyDragon · 26/11/2012 15:19

I am very relived that Ds is now of age to be left as he is off ill. Dd can be shoved in Cameleon as people who disapprove of toddlers in pushchairs don't go out in the rain.

Dog was pissed off she didn't get a run and a swim but that's because the cunt ate my wellies this morning Angry

WTFwasthat · 26/11/2012 15:35

here when its raining the sequence goes, get lead, remove dog who has surgically attached herself to chair, persuade dog she really does want to go for a walk, almost drag her out of the house, short trot round the block and put up with said dog glaring at me for the rest of the day because i took her out in the rain, fair enough she only came from cyprus in september so she isnt used to horrid cold wet weather, but have never owned a dog who didnt bounce at the idea of walkies

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 26/11/2012 17:15

I have a lab who will go out in anything too, so if the weather is foul we do one decent long muddy walk (we are in rural village) for over an hour in the morning where he can get as filthy as he likes, then he gets rinsed off in the back garden, and towel dried in the utility room. I have a good coat, strong boots and was raised in the north of scotland where our parents would regularly dunk us in the North Sea to develop a strong constitution so a bit of rain is ok Wink

Later walks/school run will then be on lead, on pavement, so only paws to rub when we come in. He's getting on a bit so that seems to be enough for him.

We haven't had anything like the weather/flooding down south has had the last few days, so sending best wishes to anyone suffering as a result.

SrirachaGirl · 26/11/2012 17:26

We run! You don't notice the cold and rain as much when you're moving fast; it's quite invigorating sometimes.

Pickles77 · 26/11/2012 18:35

Wow a Cypriot dog! I bet that's a great tale Smile

FundusCrispyPancake · 26/11/2012 18:51

When it's really pissing down we don't go because PancakeDog hates the wet, but I usually find a bit of the day is dry enough to drag her out.

PancakeDog is long haired and the house is carpeted so she gets towelled dry or blow dried when we get home because it stops the damp dog smell.

issey6cats · 26/11/2012 21:27

PICKLES77 she is an 8 year old coon hound cross and 8 years old she was used as a puppy factory and dumped outside cyprus pride house, i adopted her via facebook , she is a super sweet girl but of course not been treated very well so she has confidence ishoos

Issey what a lovely story!!! I bet she's very spoilt now Grin

BehindLockNumberNine · 26/11/2012 21:44

Whippety lurcher boy hates the rain. Not even his cool black and red coat which, with the collar turned up, makes him look like Count Dracula himself, can persuade him to step out the front door.

He will edge to the front of the house, looking pathetic, squat (yes, HE, but he does not cock a leg) and hightail it back into the house. He will launch himself on the sofa making pathetic whimpering noises until dd takes pity on him and puts a blanket over him.

He will then stay there for hours on end.

He is not a real dog!

fanoftheinvisibleman · 26/11/2012 22:55

Puppy is loving the rain as our local park (pretty park, lake, museum and tea rooms) is deserted so I get brave and allow him off lead more.

He seems snug enough in his lightweight raincoat. Not that the lack of it bothered him when he hurled himself down an embankment and into a waterfilled ditch in the woods this weekend. I papped myself that he wouldn't be able to get out (he is a 17 week old border terrier and still dinky) but he did. But only after having his fun!

I'm opting for wellies and a Henri Lloyd parka. It is great in bad weather, it has a peaked hood and it knee length, waterproof and warm.

D0oinMeCleanin · 26/11/2012 23:00

Mine have all been out for their long swim walk tonight. Whippy was distraught. Puppy thought it must be his birthday, the whole golf course was a lagoon not just the obstacles. He couldn't decide which way to run there was so much water. Whippy tip toe'd along the cobble stones and raised bits with us looking utterly fed up. She got stranded at one point and had no choice but to get wet, it almost went to her belly. Oh how she howled.

Imsosorryalan · 27/11/2012 15:27

I do it with a toddler in buggy in tow tooSad

Lock that's a typical pointy :o

MerryCunnyFuntingChristmas · 27/11/2012 15:58

Although saying that, Sprocket doesn't mind going out for a walk in the rain, but it takes a lot of persuasion to get him out into the garden for his bedtime wee if it's raining. I have to coax him into the kitchen then shut the baby gate behind him, he then glares at me as I open the back foor and he very reluctantly tiptoes out :o

Lougle · 27/11/2012 16:06

I think my dog is faulty. He (staffy x probably whippet) is so adverse to rain, that he wanders to the kitchen with his head down low, lifts his eyes long enough to see that it's damp out, and turns tail to the sofa.

Aquelven · 27/11/2012 16:57

Lougle I have five who are in total agreement with him.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 27/11/2012 17:21

lougle BigDog (staffy) agrees too.

He just went to the back door, put one paw out and came back in.

GoldenOrangeWhippoorwhill · 27/11/2012 17:48

Old Dog is refusing to go out in the garden today. I'm having to close the kitchen door behind her after luring with food and then drag her out the back door and lock it behind her until she goes for a wee. She then runs back upstairs to bed, as fast as her elderly, arthritic legs will carry her.

Pupiranha seems positively gleeful. She paddles in the mud, splashes in the puddles and earlier was standing in their water trough, clearly just the rain wasn't getting her wet enough. Serves me right for getting a Curly Coated Retriever and calling her Rain. That was just asking for trouble! On the bright side she's only 12 weeks old and so walks are still very short and mainly involve standing in the park while she has a bit of a sniff and panics about being in a strange place. :)
