stupid bloody window cleaner left the gate open and i let the dog out

after a few mins i wondered why she wasnt asking to come in, stepped out and saw the gate to the back garden wide open

panic stations

just spent a frantic 10 mins screeching her name up and down the street. DS is home from uni for the weekend and found her 15 doors away while i was stood shouting at an empty park and sobbing Blush

jesus christ on a bike. my nerves wont take much more of that!

Oh gosh I've been there, very soon after we adopted SpicyDog when she had zero recall. Was a combination of cleaner opening stair gate and carpenter leaving front door open. It was awful. That sick feeling when you realise they are gone. Really feel for you. Have a good cry if you need it and give her a big hug. And don't beat yourself up about it for months like I did!

I hate our fecking window cleaner. The dog hates the window cleaner, with a passion. They always leave the gates open. When I flounced after them one day as they went through my garden leaving all the gates open to get to the neighbours, they claimed they were leaving them open for the next chap with the ladder Hmm. I sometimes feel like letting BastardDog out to savage them, but no doubt it would backfire on me.

And don't get me started on people at the stables who leave gates open.

IT IS A GATE. SHUT IT!!!

ThatVikRinA22 · 24/11/2012 23:00

i sobbed Blush
she is sat here looking at me like she has no idea what the fuss was about. yt the time i got back from the park DD was drying her off with a towel (its pissing down here! i am soaked!)
thank god DS was here, he stayed local while i went charging down the street thinking she would head for the park where we walk....

it was seriously horrible. horrible. she is 8 and ive had her from 6 months old when she came to me as a rescue. i would die if she was lost. she is a lap dog - she needs a lap!

Why did she go? My boy would only go if he was chasing someone/something. He has jumped out a couple of times when people have been walking dogs past the side gate, but generally he does not want to be parted from me. Although he is not a lap dog. (see profile) Wink

Animals eh? Bastards. Nothing but pain and worry I tel you.

dwagdays · 24/11/2012 23:21

Whilst chasing after one of mine I 'borrowed' a bike from a preteen and cycled off in hot pursuit. I returned the bike to a child stunned to have been apparently mugged for his bike by a fully grown woman. Was shameless in pursuit!

Have a toast to happy reunions.

It happened to us while we were on holiday. We had a voicemail asking us to contact X vets in town the dogs were being looked after in. They said on message it was "very urgent" and regarding a dog named Devil Dog.

Cue utter panic and me getting straight on the phone to my mum to get her to round to our house to find our credit cards fully prepared to remortgage the house to pay for the treatment for his obviously horrific injuries, while DH was telling me "I'm not paying more than 2k. We can't afford it"

Once DH had gotten though to the vets they asked us to describe him. He put me on the phone and I gave a detailed description to the vet nurse, who said "Oh, you mean the barky, aggressive one? Yes he's here. He's fine. A member of the public found him in the playing fields and brought him in to be scanned for a microchip. We always keep them here if they are chipped, instead of sending them to the pound until we can get in touch with their owner"

While we were calming down and getting round to calling the dog sitter, she phone us to tell us not to panic but Whippy had escaped and been handed into the local vets but Devil Dog had gone with her and had not been found yet. You could almost feel the relief when we told her where he was.

I'm glad you got your dog back quickly. Have some sweet tea.

Oh it's such a horrible feeling, mine did this.

Have a cuppa and a biscuit

DH once let our old PBGV out in the garden after he had bathed him. Someone had left the sidegate open and PBGV legged it to the garden centre nearby where his strange habbit of grinning when he was a bit intimidated by strangers led them to suppose he was fierce. He ended up 15 miles away in the Cheltenham pound in less than an hour after he escaped. DH paid the release fee, got him home and I knew nothing of it until about a week later when he had the courage to confess.

diddl · 26/11/2012 07:52

Glad you got him back OK.

Mine sped past me on a walk.

Crossed a couple of roads.

I flagged down a stranger´s van & leaped in in tearsShockBlush

Couldn´t find him.

Had to get out as stranger need to go on to work.

Decided to go home & get on my bike.

Nearly home when saw doggy disappearing round the corner.
