WTFWT hope you had a better night

I think if you let them up "just for sleeping" it will be impossible to keep them from going upstairs at other times.

I have never used a stair gate I just tell them no and then they stop trying to get upstairs but once upstairs ..............

we have a stair gate for the day

Mine sleeps in her crate in our room. It seemed like the right thing at the time and we are still happy with the situation 18 months on. She snores a lot, but so does dh so I'm well used to it. We would have the crate open but she would sneak into the bed (note into not onto) and I don't want black dog hair all over my nice white sheets, nor do I like waking up with a tongue in my ear, especially when I know where it's been.

No, he's too noisy Grin He shuffles around, has a scratch, snores. Worse than dh!

When he was a puppy we started him off in our room for the first week until he no longer needed to go out for a wee in the night, then graduated to the landing and then downstairs. We had a few nights of early morning crying but did 'controlled barking' and that fixed it Wink

Our jack Russell Lola and her pup Jess both sleep in our bed, under the covers but down by our feet with their noses poking out at the bottom. They are only the size of large cats so you can move them with your feet if they're in an inconvenient spot. Lola does have a habit of creeping up to sleep by my face though. Her rancid breath often wakes me up Grin

God no. It's bad enough having a cat on the bed.

The dogs aren't allowed upstairs. They moult everywhere, shed leaves and mud and bits of twig, snore and fart, and take up too much space. It's hard enough keeping the living room carpet from looking like a forest floor - I don't fancy that in the bedroom too!!
