I have taken on a fellow school run mums 2yr old staff.

she was in a crate to eat sleep, when they go out and night time. most of the day really Hmm

she was fed local shops cheap food sometmes! but lived on table scraps. she weighs 21.7kg. i did a quick google and lots of different ideal weights came up ranging between 13-19kg?? so what is ideal weight for her?

anyway point of the thread... i have a smaller dog who is fed on natures menu nuggets. I introduced a nugget (defrosted) to staffie but not interested - i put one nugget in with her crappy chunks in gravy but she ate the rest and left it! shall i try the pouches/tins? i really want her to be on the best, imtroducing her slowly of course - but whats the best way do go about it?
thanks

Cook it. It may be the fact it is raw that is throwing her. Some dogs just don't like raw, or take a while to grasp it.

Blistory · 18/09/2012 17:55

Have you tried leaving them frozen and not mixing with other foods, Mine loves all the nature menu nuggets except the lamb one which she can detect from ten paces away and won't go near her bowl. I tend to chuck them frozen on the lawn and leave her to it. I suspect if I mixed them with crap food, she may ignore the nuggets.

39StepsDown · 18/09/2012 20:10

I tried her with it on its own, with no interest. thats when i put it with her usual food

I tried the free flow mince frozen & thawed - didnt want it. will see if frozen nugget will make a difference. she's use to hot cooked scraps!

if i cook it, could it be done in advance or is it better to heat as needed?

She sounds a bit tubby for a bitch tbh. Mines 19.5 and well over breed standard height. She is a good healthy weight

39StepsDown · 19/09/2012 09:37

I thought she was over weight, she has fat pocket at the base of her tail. im lost at where to go with feeding? how can i wean her on to something healthy whilst feeding table scraps? Shock

which in this house there isnt much left overs!

was wondering if burns dry might help? im at a complete loss with this one :(
can cook the natures menu if its still nutrious for her??

One of ours will not eat raw full stop - chicken wings being the exception. So she gets hers heated in water, makes a sort of broth as the nugget melts.

39StepsDown · 19/09/2012 20:27

ullena - how long do you heat in water for and do you let it cool or serve warm still? thanks

this staff also wont eat boiled chicken (tried to help with her wet stools) banana to help bind her [cofused]

so tonight i have given her some natures diet mixed with a little raw free flow mince and some mixer! she ate it Smile i know it probably dont sound great but its alot better then chips, burger and whatever other table scraps she used to get!

hoping to slowly add more free flow mince or nuggets and less natures diet to wean her over....fingers crossed!

As she's too fat anyway, it won't hurt her to just keep putting down the food you want her to eat and wait it out...

39StepsDown · 19/09/2012 21:43

I left some raw mince in her crate and she ignored it....

I would wait it out if i knew her temprament a bit better - wouldnt want a snappy dog because she's hungry!

Nature diet trays can be fed warm and are a good quality wet food.

You just zap 'em in the microwave for 60 seconds.

39StepsDown · 20/09/2012 19:20

hi d0oin, she eats the natures diet ok its the natures menu that she's not keen on, she been eating it blended in Smile not sure if i can zap it if theres raw mince mkxed in??

the end result im hoping she be fine on just a barf diet so wouldnt warming it confuse her?

I would focus on bonding and getting her to a healthy weight first. Then switch from cooked to raw, once she trusts you to provide her with good things. Good luck!
