Good rescues in Herefordshire?

My mother is starting to get serious about looking for a new dog, and I'd like for her to be supported by somewhere/one that will help her find the right dog for her needs.

She is a very experienced dog owner, but getting a bit frail (she has RA and has had both hips and knees replaced). She is really looking for a dog to adore her and vice versa, especially as my father is now terminally ill.

If anyone knows of a centre in her neck of the woods I'd love to be able to direct her the right way.

I don't know much about them except a very good behaviourist we used helped there

Excuse my geographic ignorance but is Wales an option?

In which case you have Hope Rescue www.hoperescue.org.uk/ and Many Tears www.manytearsrescue.org/

Carol who runs HW rescue above is lovely, and very helpful. They try to foster the dogs out as much as possible, and if she doesn't have the right dog there, I'm sure she'd be able to offer your mother some good advice. Their kennels are based in Hamnish, just outside Leominster. Not too far away in Newport is Four Paws rescue

If she doesn't want a bouncy younger dog, has she thought about rehoming an oldie? Oldies Club rehome all over the country, and might have a more laidback retiree to keep her company?

How about Evesham Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue? Take a look at the lovely Pippa on their front page. An experienced owner like your mum would be able to give her the TLC she deserves and as she is not a very young dog, fewer worries about long term future. Lots of other lovely dogs there - see here for more info.

Also see Shropshire and Borders Retired Greyhound Trust - here - Beth and her team are great - saw them on Saturday.

And as you are near the borders of Wales, you could also try Greyhound Rescue Wales.

Sorry about your dad. Sad

Thank you so much guys. I knew you'd come up trumps :)

I've been trying to steer my mother toward a greyhound for a while, (beautiful, lovely to stroke and couch potato, what's not to like!) but I'm not sure she's taken the hook. Our family dogs were all medium sized (collie, springer and all sorts) and I think that's what she'd like most.
