When CM learn his methods are rubbish

If a member of the public did what CM did here they would be arrested:

Watch the dogs body language he is chucking our calming signals left right and centre lip licking, narrowing of eye, turning his head. But CM goes in with a punch.........oh he gets bitten what a surprise.

Good. I hope it really hurt. And got infected.
Bastard.

D0oinMeCleanin · 17/09/2012 17:20

When will the general public learn that he is not actually very good with dogs?

When people stop watching his shows and buying his books he will go away.

How can someone claim to understand dogs and yet end up bitten regularly? Surely the two are exclusive of each other? Either you understand dogs and are therefore able to work with them in a way that is safe and comfortable for trainer and dog or you don't and you end up being bitten like this fool.

That poor dog learned only to fear people going near her food even more than she already did Sad

Blistory · 17/09/2012 18:03

My dog is just a dog. She needs food, shelter and companionship. She wants food, attention, fox poo, rabbits to chase, flys to catch. It's me and my ego that needs the rest.

The fact that she freely gives me her attention, her companionship, that she chooses to follow her training mean more to me than me winning some crappy dominance competition with her. Knowing that she's by my side because she's deemed that the best place to be rather than having her there because she's scared and shut down makes my heart sing.

I would rather pick my eyeballs out with toothpicks than have that man anywhere near my dog.

Cuebill · 17/09/2012 18:39

where did the "will" go in the title - sorry

Poor dog.

"I didn't see that coming" he says, but everyone else did. The dog sent out so many signals.

Do you think he has a producer saying to him, go on make the dog bite, make it look bad cos it makes for better tv?

I especially hate the bits in his shows where he starts going on about what 'the brain' is doing, as if it is separate from the body. I assume he is saying it to try and sound scientific, but it just makes it sound even more like he doesn't know what he is talking about.

MrsZoidberg · 17/09/2012 20:37

Nat Geo have learnt - they have finally cancelled his show, this is his last series Grin

midori1999 · 17/09/2012 22:51

Ithink although the dog Whisperer has been cancelled, he has a new show. Sad

He really is a nasty little man isn't he? Angry There was no need whatsoever to push that dog to biting. He'd already made it defensive by standing over it's food bowl and then went to touch the top of his head. What the actual fuck?! He clearly knows nothing about behaviour and just has small man syndrome. I hate him. Arsehole!

nooka · 18/09/2012 07:18

Poor dog. She looked so anxious. I was always taught to leave the dog alone when s/he was eating. Our current dog doesn't protect his food at all (will even let the cat push him out of the way and eat his kibble, although he did growl at him when he thought the cat was making a move on his bone). I'd still not interfere with him when he's eating. When I grew up our Springer Spaniel was defensive about his food. We just didn't bother him when he was eating. Why would you want to provoke a fight with your dog?

That lab looked quite a lot like our dog and my instincts were that she needed reassurance and praise not a thump, in fact I can't really imagine in any circumstances hitting my dog (let alone in the mouth, how stupid do you have to be?) Not that I know anything other than what works for my dog (who is a sweetie, but can get very nervous).

I note that the crew were ready with first aid, which suggested to me that bites were common place.

HotPinkWeasel · 18/09/2012 11:06

That has made me so Angry. Why intimidate a dog like that?

Sadly Lemarch I don't think that will work. Have you read the comments under the video?

Apparently CM had to cause the dog to fear him so much it ended up biting to show it who was boss Confused and Sad

Another comment is by someone who regularly takes their dog's food dish away and would "snap it's neck" if it so much as growled Sad

Seriously where were these people educated? Where do they come from? It is scary how many people are utterly clueless when it comes to something as common as a pet dog. It's no wonder bite incidents are rising (if indeed they are, I am skeptical) if that is how people behave with their pets.

That video was so sad. She warned him, he could see how stressed she was. Yet he dominates her to show he's boss. Then he tries to stroke her?? I don't think so. No way I'd want you near me if you'd done that.

How did he not see it coming? She was twitching all over, poor girl.

You know, my Staffy is still incredibly bouncy. I've been fair and consistent with 'down'. It amazed me yesterday, that after many firm 'down's, I walked over to the cupboard (the dog still jumping like a loon) took the clicker and treats from it...suddenly, I had a dog sitting beautifully looking up at me, ignoring my guest! That's the power of reward.

LtEveDallas · 18/09/2012 13:32

If a dog is warning you to keep away you bloody well keep away. How could he NOT pick up on her cues?

I hope it hurt Angry

Ullena · 18/09/2012 14:22

I am currently weaning a litter onto solid food. I hate to think of anyone ever treating one of them like this Angry

FiveHoursSleep · 19/09/2012 21:57

Did anyone else see this
It's worth a read through while watching the video if you are interested in dog behaviour.
