Cut my dogs claw and there's blood everywhere!

Poor old soul, he trusted me to cut his claws and 4 claws in I cut too far and he yelped and ran off! It's bleeding quite a bit, how do I stop it (apart from holding tissue to it). And how can I apologise enough to my dog who can't quite believe I hurt him?

I'd go to the vets or at least give your usual vet a call and explain. Unless the bleeding doesn't stop or he's in lots of pain it's usually fine, but I'd ring ahead to give a heads up in case you do need to take him in.

Flour can be used to stem the blood. Just try and get him to put his paw in a bowl of flour. Apologies usually come in the form of cooked meats in this house Grin. Don't feel bad, you were doing it for his own good.

Thanks Punk I have raided the first aid box and DDog is the confused wearer of a lovely bandage wrapped round and round his paw. And he is still looking at me a bit dubiously. I'm not at all happy about losing his trust and I'm thinking of some sort of chicken-leg based dinner to properly apologise! I have a friend who is a vet, but I was so thrown it didn't occur to me to call her so I'll do that now.

Good idea. I read up a bit more about it and apparently if he's not limping or bleeding anymore you'll be fine. He may be wary of you doing it next time though.

Chicken dinner sounds good, just take the bones out first, you don't want two calls to your vet friend in one day Wink.

God, the clippers are going to the back of the cupboard for good! He doesn't appear to be in pain, in fact he's asleep and farting at my feet, so fingers crossed he will be ok!

I did this to my dog too Blush just be careful when you take him out for a walk again, mine managed to start bleeding again, all over the hall at dog training class, after scrabbling across the car park. It was vair embarrassing.

Yes ornellaia he has already had the dressing off and left a trail of blood through the living room! It's been put back on and taped in place, he looks very funny with a big green sock covering one leg! Think I'll keep it there for a few days!
