Dry food

Hi,
I'm a novice dog-owner: just adopted a 2yr old male nuetered lab. He has settled in well, and is generally an adorable goofball!

He is unusually picky about food, in that he only wants to eat ours!! I've tried a couple of brands of dried food and he's refused them. I'm willing to wait it out but he gets really annoying while he's hungry- stealing off of the table/out of the kids hands.

Can someone recommend dry dog foods? I think he needs them- his poos are quite runny (sorry TMI)

I'd also love tips on training manners wrt food. We don't feed him from the table, but he makes such a nuisance of himself that we have to chuck him outside at mealtimes, whereupon he whines and scrabbles at the door...
Cheers!

My girl is picky too. I tried to persevere but she seemed happy not to eat and waste away! She only really enjoys Orijen. It's a great dry food but unfortunately quite expensive.

She even goes off this sometimes so I mix it with NatureDiet wet trays. Her poos are good and solid!

You could try mixing in a tin of sardines/pilchards in tomato sauce in with the dry stuff. Supermarket own brand sardines are usually fairly cheap, about 40p. I get mine from trsco.

Tesco

That's a good idea! Good for calcium too surely! I think I have some in the cupboard... Will try that in the morning! Thx

Make sure you mix them in well, coating all thr biscuits so if he desperatly wants the fish he has to eat it all Wink

My Westie is uberfussy and would ignore his kibble in favour of the children's scraps they'd chuck him. He's really taken to Purina Beta, and it's not too expensive either.

I can recommend Chappie tinned with a handful of dog meal/mixer (for crunch/teeth) sprinkled on top.
I have never fed an all dry diet, don't think its natural at all. Chappie really works on dogs with runny poos, after a week on that he should not only be enjoying his meals, but firmed up his stools too.

Did you try him with the sardines? How did it go?

We have James Wellbeloved as my dog has issues with his digestive system! I also give him a small amount of the wet pouches mixed in with the dry, or if we are having fresh fish I give him a small portion. I hadn't thought to try sardines so will definitely try that myself as it is cheaper than the pouches!

It's definitely worth a try Piggy, tomatoey sardines are stinky and most dogs love stinky food! At 40 odd pence a tin you can't not try it can you!
